I just bought HL2. Had to queue for ages but that's beside the point.

I have only a very small partition ( C: ) which is reserved for windows duties. I have another much larger partition for games and music etc ( F: ).

The HL2 installer doesn't give me the option to install on the F: drive (Unless I'm being REALLY stupid). What can I do?

"Resize your partitions!" I hear you cry! Well, for some reason, partition magic won't work. Possibly due to my linux partition which is Ext3 or something (I.e. windows doesn't recognise it.

    Any ideas?

    EDIT: Pic to help explain:

The bottom box is what I get when I click "Disk cost" on the main window. But I can't click anywhere. I just get a helpful message saying that it can't install onto C:

    NB "Reset" doesn't do anything.

Clicking "Next" allows me to progress to the do-you-want-shortcuts-page and the registration page. Then I get a screen saying "Setup has determined that you have DX9b" and it doesn't need to install etc. The I click Next again and nothing happens. So I clicked it again. Nothing!

I can't believe that Valve would be so stupid!

Nope. It has the option to install that component fully, partially, or not at all.

    But that's of little use.

Anyone know of a decent alternative to partition magic. If I can resize my partition, then all my troubles are over. But I can't because as I said, Part.magic doesn't work (It won't even start).

    ok try this:

when i installed HL2, it automatically installed to where Steam was already installed (E: ), no prompting, it just did it. so, download Steam, install it to your F drive, and *hopefully*, it'll work.
