I just saw some very cheap LCDs at allelectronics.com. Go here and see for yourself. They seem to cheap to be any good, but i dont know anything about LCDs, so what do u think? Are they any good??

i believe they are so cheap because they do not include the controller that is needed to interpret the messages the computer sends out and convert it into text.

    correct me if im wrong.

It's a parallel LCD. It's cheap because they're not a really expensive item. And AllElectronics is a surplus liquidator.

Oh, but those $2 ones are non-standard. Forget about those.

How about the $5 one? the one at the top of the page. According to one of the reviews and the PDF, its chipset is a Samsung KS0066/65.

What does all this mean in terms of hooking it up and using it? I dont really know anything about LCDs so if you could be so kind as to put it in idiot terms Id be happy.

After using a Matrix Orbital LCD with all it's additional functions like GPO's and Keyboard input you won't look at another LCD again - Bang the buck out and go for the special purchase at the top of the screen.. best $ you'll ever spend :) Honest!!

I'm with mat... if you've never touched an LCD before this $5 lcd will take you quite a while to wire up and from my experience 50% of people mess up their first // lcd wiring - it's scary but it's true, I was talking to a guy only this week who fried his motherboard by wrongly wiring a // display, scary eh?

So // LCD's are a headache, but you'll save a lot of money so they're still worth thinking about? Well it's still not quite that simple. The other major issue is software support, and frankly if you buy // you'll end up using either LCD Center or smartie and be left feeling unimpressed. Check out the matrix orbital website to see the wealth of software available for their displays, I'm sure you'll be impressed ;)

    Cheers,

    r.

The MO offer is good but i'll probably get charged import duty on it. Unless MO want to lable the customs tag as a gift under $20!;)

The 640 X 480 lcd for $20 from allelectronics looks goood. I suppose the only way to get software for it is if I write it!
