Theres actually a lot more to it - it seems a deal has been made with the record companies - who have more to lose with `the` (in their opinion) name for cd business on the high street - whilst we are tech savvy and download , apparently 70% of all companies profits are made from cd sales ; so its not in their interests to see HMV fail , as the potential for a stampede off the high street and thus hurt profits.

If HMV was to collapse completely the record industry in the uk would be pretty broken at retail as there would be no major store for them to sell at.

Kinda expect to see a cut down hmv maybe 1 store in each of the major shopping areas/ centres would be a major cut down in stores but that's kinda required for it to survive.

It wasn't faulty, a cd took over 2 weeks to arrive (3-5 days it said on the website). A week after I ordered it, I realised hmv were rubbish and got free next day collection from asda for the same price. I rang customer services and they said if it arrived after 2 weeks I could return it :(

I doubt that would happen, hardly anyone buys music on the high street anymore (hence bankruptcy). The big problem will be one internet company monopolising the market, pushing out everyone everyone else and overcharging for it.

was the call before or after they went into administration? I would call again , and honestly the *best* would be an exchange for another cd and worst would be along the lines of ` you have received your order`... but call them again :(

My brother works for them. He still gets his staff discount, gift vouchers are being taken again and returns (with receipt of purchase) are being accepted. Straight from the horses (nippers) mouth. Hope this helps...

I can assure you, hmv is still a substantial part of the music industry's sales.
