    The effect of having more memory depends on what you are doing. I've recently upgraded from 4gb to 8gb and did some testing to compare it.
    I do a fair bit of image editing so I went for the 8gb. As from this old review it makes a positive difference. I did this testing so I could see if newer systems/software handle it better.
    All the tests I did I ran 3 times and averaged.
    Sisoft;
    Memory bandwidth. 4gb; 19.41Gb/s. 8gb; 19.55Gb/s. (I though it would make much more of a difference here)
    Latecny (ns). 4gb; 69. 8gb; 73.
    Cache+memory score; 4gb; 70.63. 8gb; 71.

    CPC benchmark suite;
    4gb; Image; 1332. Video; 2283. Multithreaded; 1383. Overall; 1666
    8gb; Image; 1372. Video; 2230. Multithreaded; 1416. Overall; 1673

    I used 2 games that I had with in built benchmarks; These are the average fps's from the benchmarks
    Just cause 2; 4gb; 54.28fps. 8gb; 53.92.
    Dawn of war 2; 4gb 64.53. 8gb; 60.41

    These were all done on the system in my sig with a base clock of 160, ram at 1600mhz(9,9,9,24) T1. Running with a 22x multi for 3.5Ghz.

    Wow, interesting results! I guess keeping to the triple-channel slots is a better choice for general use and gaming then.

    Well I hope they drop by December 1st when I will be building a new gaming pc from scratch, have my eyes on ddr3 8gb corsair 1600 to add to my set up and coming to a tad short of £140 it would be good to see this drop further by then.

    When I built my PC I bought "Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz XMS3 Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.6V" for £62. I might pick up another 4Gb kit if prices get that low again.

    Or maybe not - I don't think I'll get a performance boost worth it. £62 to save for an SSD might be a better idea. :lol:

    Arg - hope this drops the used market as I'm still looking for a large qty of DDR ECC REG memory for my servers. I have a source for a few but will need ~ 18 sticks for now and more soon after.
