I have an idea to build a arcade cabinet that'll let me store and use all my retro consoles. I will have storage for games, cords, and consoles alike. It will also deature one of my older pc's running linux with (if he actually does it), a coustom GUI. Anyways, i have one question about this.... i want to have the real controlls on top. the classic arcade stick and buttons. I looked online, and found them. And how to's. They keyboard one was the one i was leaning twords. but it was written really poorly. Is this a good way to do it? is there an easy way to do it thatll work. I know how to solder with a small amount of knoledge about cuircitry. my spelling sucks, but oh well. thanks for any help. casey
You cannot unify the controllers from multiple consoles with incompatible interfaces. So for the older consoles you'll simply have to emulate the games of have drawers to stow the controllers in.
what you could do is hack up a controller for each system, then have one of those printer data switchers between the buttons and the controllers.
afterthough i was thinking about it. i think i might make it so i can have all the systems hooked up to the tv in one fashion or another (so i can play the real system with the real controller), and then for the emulation part of it, get 4 computer arcade joysticks. somthing like this http://cgi.ebay.com/New-USB-Arcade-...8QQihZ017QQcategoryZ31215QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem mod that into the where they should be, they are usb, call it good. i might just make a coustom java/flash/vb fullscreen-amajig for the interface in windows, because i dont know that much about linux and dont know if what i would get would have drivers that are supported under linux. any more thoughts, ideas? i need to get a tv now, with composit/stereo in. craigslist here i come! casey
