    Hi every 1,

Ok hers my problem. For some reason my backup server (XP Pro) wont connect to my network using my home made patch cable but it will using a ready made cable but my home made cable works on all of my other XP Pro computers.

The nic in the backup server is a - 3Com Etherlink 3C905C (I did get it for £1.99 on eBay so do u think it could be the card?)

If you have any ideas please let me know. And if u need any more info please ask.

    Thanks very much

I think it is your card, I have a few (nicked :worried: ) flat grey patch lead from school (which they use for headphone systems) and they work on all of my computers except for one, use a normal cable and it works no probs. It is most likely a hardware problem or limitation, I think its unlikely that the computer can tell what cable is what.

    Yeah.

School is a good source of parts/cables :worried: :D

Oh well I will have to keep it hooked up with a ready made cable. :blah:

    Thanks! :thumb:
