Thanks lads. I don't mind a laugh and a joke but it was asked as a serious question and as said, no need for some of the comments.
I thought the same thing as well. Still, even after all the various **** that's gone on in recent months, people can't go past a thread without posting some utterly useless/inflammatory/unnecessary/insulting/whatever **** instead of just leaving it the **** alone. Those people know who they are and they need to get a ****ing life. Back on to the topic of the dog, a local dogs trust is always the best option but failing that there's a chance that there will be kennel clubs fairly local who could also help with rehoming. Best of luck with it.
Speaking from the perspective of having to put my dog down this week smiffy, had you said that around my person I would have given you an express pass to ride the Air Ambulance. Hopefully you take more care in what **** jokes you spout in public eh.
Okay boys, let's take a step back here. 1) You are posting ON THE INTERNET. People are likely to say inappropriate things. 2) The OP made it quite clear that the owner is not reading this thread, hence the jokes can be a bit more liberated without too much worry of offence. 3) Lighten up. There's some good advice here, and some amusing in that shockingly harsh style jokes which, personally, I can find quite funny. Throbbi, especially, you need to get a grip man. There's no need to fly off the handle just because of some typical internet jokes about a dog. Fizzban: I'm sorry to hear you've lost your pet, but would you honestly resort to violence because someone was careless with your feelings? I think that's a very poor attitude.
M'eh. I'm inclined to let it continue. If you update us with some of the useful info that has already been asked for then perhaps it will serve a purpose other than an immature giggle.
Unlike me to turn down a bit of humour , but I just want to reiterate what Throbbi is saying because it's true. Every thread these days seems to be derailed by some kind of silly 'humour' - one guy posts one joke then another 5 follow with their own meaningless comments or pictures. I'm not having a go at anyone in particular, or even the original poster of the joke. It just feels like the actual quality of the forums is being derailed by this ethos of joking or messing up every thread with super sarcasm/tongue in cheek/who can post the most silly comment competition. It is kind of annoying now, because I'm seeing it way too often, and it's especially disappointing in a thread where the OP has posted a serious question. I don't mind a bit of humour every now and again, but there seems to be some posters who simply post in order to generate more silly humour.
If it is a serious thread then it belongs in the serious section, that is where you get no jokes or images. General discussion is general....
Yeah and a thread about a dog getting a new home is a thread about a dog getting a new home. No need for half the random comments that just derail the thread and spoil any proper discussion.
Ok agreed, that was an excessively heated comment and I apologise for that. The point however does stand, a certain few really are posting unnecessary stuff in threads frequently. General doesn't mean 'post any old crap with no thought to whether it may or may not cause offence/argument regardless of subject matter'. Also don't go using the old 'this is general discussion' bollocks when there's people doing it frequently in many other sections too. Good to hear he's got multiple options open
Inappropriate things seem to crop up every other thread these days.. Yes it was a harsh joke, and yes I do sometimes find them funny. But more often than not they are made in poor taste and I wanted to show quite clearly that you need to take care in what you say. I doubt smiffy meant any offence, but I showed how easily it can be given..a lesson perhaps? People resort to violence for far less. Hurting ones feelings is pretty high on the list of reasons wouldn't you say? It is a poor attitude I agree, and one I would not normally wear, but you will have to forgive me (or moderate me) if today I choose not to give a ****. Sorry Jeff
But the joke wasn't aimed directly at you. I am sure nearly all jokes can cause offence if the right person hears them. Comedy is edgy and will always offend someone.
Ok don't post on here often but here goes. Although these jokes aren't needed and the calibre of the bit-tech forums has been brought down over the years by this sort of thing, i have found this is the way of the whole of the internet these days. There seems to be a whole worldwide culture in regards to the internet, with the same comments and jokes on every forum i frequent. Its the same on social networking sites like twitter and facebook as well from what ive seen. Although regrettable theres nothing you can do about it, its just the way the internet has gone. I started coming to bit-tech in 2003/2004 when i was in college, and joined a lot later (2006 i think) after i got my first broadband connection (was on dial up before this at home and mainly just used college for my daily dose of bit). A lot of people remember the "hayday" of bit but im afraid to say its not coming back. The best thing you can do is just discount these comments as "troll" comments and get on with it. I don't like some of the comments either but complaining won't do anything apart from derailing the thread even more than it already has been (and i realise my own post doesn't help on this front but felt like i had to be unhelpful). In regards to the OP i can sympathise with the position of the dog owner. I have two older dogs, ones 14 and ones 12 and i can't even think about having to give them away. The 14yo we've had since he was a pup and the 12yo we got when he was 2 as an unwanted pet. Best of luck finding a new home for him.
1) We aren't posting on The Internet though are we? We're posting on Bit-Tech, somewhere which should have better standards than the rest of the Internet. 2)How can you possibly know that? Just because it's someone else's dog doesn't mean that it's fine to make a joke about killing it. 3)So you're saying because you're fine with it, it's within the rules? I could have sworn one of the rules on these forums was that posts must be helpful. And given that Jeff had already expressed his dislike of certain comments, it might have been nice to edit them out, what with them being offensive to what seems like quite a few people. And I agree wholeheartedly with both Throbbi and Fizzban. On topic, sorry for the further derailment bulldogjeff But if none of the 3 homes take him, let me know. I might be able to take him in if he's good with kids
First rule of Fight Club Before posting a new thread... Please ask yourself: "Am I making a thread which is either funny, informative or interesting on any level?" If you can answer "yes", then please go right ahead. If you cannot, then please don't post. Before posting a new reply... Please ask yourself "Does my reply offer significant advice, help or contribute positively in any way or on any level?" If you can answer "yes", then please go right ahead. If you cannot, then please don't post. Aswell as the swearing, it should be toned down a bit, but I can understand the form of language as people are angry, but please, if your mods aren't going to follow the rules, why enforce them on other members?
Krikkit, you could have simply put "They may be sick f*cks 'cutting edge comedians' posting on a 'family friendly forum' but I like them so there " They do, except possibly those of the human variety Jeff, babe, glad you've hopefully got a happy ending to this
