Righto, i have a little sumer project lined up (2 months off w00t ), and quite fancy building an ickle HTPC, mainly for DVD playback. Not 100% sure if its going to go ahead, still thinkin it through, but anyway... The main thing im not sure about is hooking it up to the TV. As the motherboard i plan on using has onboard graphics, i originally thought of using an external VGA>TV convertor and mounting it in the case. Ive just found: this and this on eBay. What sort of picture quality can i expect form something like that? I did think of using a graphics card with tv out, but the onboard one handles DVD playback fine, and with the case i have in mind id need a 90degree convertor. But if the quality form one of the devices above isnt good it might be worth it. hmmm decisions decisions....
Well.. I could only guess as good as your scart on your Tv accepts. The second one (imo) looks a bit better.. perhaps google search for reviews on the Trust Televiewer. Most likley to throw up a few results
my school uses those devices too hook up all the computers to tv's. I woulnd't reccommend them for DVD watching theres a slight pause between what the computer is doing and what tv is doing (its small but it throws of tlaking stuff) also the picture quality tends to be a lil worse.. I dunno thats just my 2 cents
Cheers for the response guys, as its going to be used exclusively for DVD playback, a slight delay would probably get right on my nerves after a while. I think ill just get a cheap graphics card with TV out.
TVs(except for HDTV) are terrible compared to even a cheap computer monitor. Heck, I can't really stand analog TV anymore, so I have digital TV on my Pentium 4 PC.
