In trying to figure out how to stop what I came to find out is called Intellitxt (the double underlined links that give tool tips), I ran across this little site that has several ad sites and other nefarious sites that you can add to your HOSTS file. After updating my file I noticed a nice speed improvement in page loading times. Made since as the browser is now waiting on less servers to respond for the page to load. Any one have any other useful info in this vein?

    Definatly spyware...

I would use no program other than Spybot, Ad-Aware or Spyware Blaster, and HijackThis for spyware issues..

Check out the help page in my sig to download..

    What is? Intellitxt?

Wrong... Intellitxt is nothing more than a piece of JavaScript that is run by a website to provide advertising through keywords. Tom's Hardware is a well known site that uses it.

the hosts-based adblockers are usually a pretty good way to stop a lot of crap. and as you say, they can have a significant impact on page loading times.

as for intellitxt, as quack said, its just a lil peice of javascript. you can probably disable javascript, and thus disable intellitxt, and im sure there are other ways around it, but for now im off back to bed, turns out the flu cant be turned off as easily as adverts.

Disabling JavaScript would certainly stop Intellitxt, but it would also stop 70-80% of web pages from working correctly. I wouldn't recommend that at all.

I downloaded a ready-made Hosts file about a trillion lines long, deleted all the lines for UK non-porn sites (in which I might have some interest) and liked the result. Works in all browsers, and I've never liked AdBlocker anyway.

(If you don't edit the file, it blocks useful sites like Kelkoo, or Google's ads, from forwarding you anywhere).

And don't block Bit ads, they keep the site running!
