Hey As some of you may remember I asked about a new car a little while ago, The result of which was a 2010 plate Seat Leon 2.0 diesel. I had it about a month until 3 weeks ago I lent it to mum and she totalled it on a roundabout. Thankfully it wasn't her fault and there insurance paid out. I now need a new car and have 8000ish to play with, tbh the Leon was actually a little big for my needs so I am thinking of getting a hot hatch intial thoughts are to get a renault clio sport 2.0ltr. Does anyone own a fun hot hatch they would recommend, I will be using it at work so it needs to be presentable. Thankies
I have a remapped Polo GTi 1.8T (208bhp after remap) Its a fantastic car, typical VW fit and finish, goes like a rocket
the polo GTI 1.8T is a quick car, i got a mk4 golf GTI 1.8T remapped to 214bhp myself, what about a 2.0ltr mk5 golf? or a skoda fabia VRS?
I've got a Focus and absolutely love it. Got the diesel version as do a bit of mileage with work, but my friend has the ST and it is amazing. The newer ones are the same size as Leon I think, so the Fiestas are possibly better but I don't have any experience with them beyond test driving a few.
Cannot quite put my finger on why, but found the ST I test drove oddly uninspiring. The renaultsport clio was insane though. Not in any way practical however!
I do have a weakness for Clios I must admit, I think I'm right when I say the polo and the fabia are the same car underneath?
Yeah, many VAG group cars are related. Hoever you get a better build quility with the VW when it comes to things like trip and switches. Makes a big difference to the feel.
While it's not really a "hot hatch" you should at least test drive one if your looking at that kind of power bracket. I went from a hatchback (absolutely not hot) to a mark2 mx5, it's a delight in comparison. For the money your playing with your looking at a second hand mark 3.
i was looking at getting a megane sport and done a lot of internet research and they seem to be terrible of going wrong, they have a lot of common electrical faults and are known for dead ECU's, fifth gear had one to test brand new and the ecu died instantly. not sure what the newer ones are like. Dont take my word for it, obviously if you like them just do your research first
Had a look at some polos, checked seats blurghhh! Bodkin how much did the remap add to your insurance? Arch
We have a standard Cooper S (175BHP) and that shifts pretty well. I test drove a brand new Works version and wow, want.
Checked seats are the best bit With a red exterior it looks really smart. Most remaps are not detectable, and therefore most people do not declare them. However as it happens my insurance did not add anything when I did tell them. However as a young driver I am already paying £2700 so they might have just felt sorry for me. I am sure they are great cars, BMW underneath after all, but its just some of the gettups you see with mental alloys and extra spoilers
I second these. The MX5 is a brilliant little car. I bought an MG because I'm machoistic like that, but a well looked after low mileage MX5 is a good shout. Best fun you can have with your trousers on. Enterobsidian
