Lets see here. We have dirtier fuels, a restirction of state's rights to pass air pollution legislation, and incentitives for big oil. Is there anything RIGHT about this?
To be realisitic, as far as emissions go, the US isn't the one to worry about. Frankly, you guys allready pump out a tonne of bad stuff, it really can't get much worse. What we should be concerned about is the fact that China is completing production of coal power plants at a rate of roughly one per week, and are intending on doing this till sometime around 2012.
Don't build more refineries, just build an SUV incinerator plant. China is a bit worrying as well, considering the amount of pollution that comes out of that place.
I don't see a problem with high oil usage from a ecological(I think) point of view. It's all going to get used eventually, so it doesn't really matter on a planet wide scale whether it's all done in 50 years or 100 years. Of course from an "Oil is running out and you morons are driving vehicles that get 12MPG to work in a city" point of view I'd be all for something like that.
