I'm thinking of making my own business cards eventually, just getting some card stock, printing a full color background, then applying some ink maybe through a silk screen or something?

I'm not sure about the ink though, I want that cool raised text look, does anyone know how the printers do it? Do I need to buy a special printer, or can I do it by hand somehow?

(I wouldn't mind spending the $$ on a silk screen with my business card and paint because then I could make as many as I want cheap :D, plus I know some screeners:p)

I agree, even if you got some good stock and got the screen printing down pat, generally, they are printed columned and rowed on standard size stock and then cut. It would be pretty labor intensive to get them cut down. I would just get some made at a good printers.

yeah, the idea was more to know so I can do other things with the technique. Plus I'd like to sound semi-intelligent when inquiring local print shops about cards, instead of saying "can you do that cool raised-text thing?" :p

The last batch I ordered for my wife. Most things are fairly standard. But they will try to sell you certain features they can do, raised text was one of them. I just handed them my cd with the layout and told them how many. If you are willing to talk about different features, they are more than excited to do so.
