Hey guys i ahve a hacker at my school and he's tryin to hack my PC and he has my IP so i am wondering if their is a way I can renew/change my IP. I have cable going thru a modem. Thanks
The thing to do would be to tell him that you run a smoothwall server on a local SFF system(use the terminology ) which is monitoring your entire intranet and has active intrusion detection, and that any intrusions or attempts at the breaking of said firewall will be logged and reported to the police. If he can actually hack you're screwed, and if he's just full of hot air that'll scare the crap out of him if he was actually planning to use some simple tools. If you really want to change your IP you could probably just disconnect your modem for a hours and then connect it again, that might get you a new IP. It might not though, if your ISP has given you a static one or just don't change their dynamic ones very often. Saying the scary stuff above would probably work more effectively.
just make sure your firewall etc is upto date aswell as the anti virus.. its not that easy to hack so i doubt he is that skilled!
I'd dare him... but then again, I have quite a secure network... don't be intimidated, he probably doesn't have the skills... If you want to be sure, get a good firewall... no connection = no hacking... and turn off your pc while not using it
Do as spec says. Scare/Intimidate him, and if he truly is great, just esnure you tighten your firewalls settings, and turn off when not in use. Also, I think if you talked to your ISP, they could change it for you.
Your ip would probably change if you changed the mac address of what the modem is plugged in to. If its a router, go to the config page and assign a new mac address to the wan port.
NO way to change IP only Tell ISP to change it and I think Pay money or so !! But just update your firewalls and antivirus and drink a Pepsi and no one will hack you good luck , CK
Most UK ISPs give you a dynamic IP unless you've paid extra for a static one, and as specofdust says, disconnecting the modem often gives you a fresh one. Anyway, it's easy to check what yours is now, just look in the green box left. Though the records say you've (Savage) only ever posted here on one IP so unless you never, ever, disconnect your modem you may be static. Mr C King, OTOH, has had 5 different IPs since he joined us, so he either moves around a lot or is more dynamic than he thinks.
You Kidding me !!! MY IP change , No way , I have Cable modem !!! 24hours working !!! so MY IP Can't Change !! ,,,,, Any Way Thank you to tell me that !! Wired !!! Bye , CK
It's not necessarily static, could just be sticky. One of the lines at work was the same for a couple of years before randomly changing the other day and that's definitely dynamic.
It kinda just depends on how long your lease is on the DHCP server, it could be anything from 1 minute to way over 8 years! I am sure if you tell this to your ISP they will delete your lease for you most likely, so then you can receive a new lease.
I'm with BT in the UK and every time I disconnect my 'net connection I get a change of IP address. But it varies from ISP to ISP. Most don't give out static IP addresses unless you specifically ask for one (which usually costs extra).
