I bought my current PC a few years ago now and while I can't remember when exactly it would be nice to know exactly how old it is. I know that I haven't re-installed windows since I bought it so I figured there are probably some system files around that are dated to the date of installation. If I look in my system folder I can find files that were last modified as far back as 1992 and the the oldest date that any of the files were created is 1995. Is there any particular file that has the date modified or date created set at the time when I first installed Windows XP?

    For XP:
    c:\Windows\setuperr.log
is created on install & should ideally be 0 bytes in size (it should also not have been written to by any other app).

Or just right-click on any of the 'original' folders such as \Windows and check the properties. Or view details in Explorer.

Nah. My comuter here at work was originally created/setup January 10th, 2003. But there are windows dlls and stuff dating back to at least 1995. Each time Microsoft releases a new OS, they are taking bit's and pieces of their old OS and then building on top of it. Therefore, there will be older dlls and stuff. Because why would you try to reinvent the wheel for things that are working fine. :D

It's no surprise, lots of programs put some of their bits in various Win folders. At least with XP it's harder for them to overwrite anything important.
