ok well im gonna be wiring a 2x16 lcd to a parallel port and since i only have one i need to get a usb adapter so i can plug my printer into that. One question can i use the lcd with the usb adapter? any way i can make one and save 15 bucks? i cant find a diagram or anything
using such adapter for an lcd wont work... i tried it... if you have some programming skills you could make a program that sets up a fake paralellport and read the data written to it, for then to send it to the fake port the driver for the usb->paralell adapter uses... many ways of doing this, but as i saind, i have no programming skills to try it out...
There are USB>LPT piggy-back boards for character LCD's if you don't feel like making SMT stuff. http://www.usblcd.de/ http://web.singnet.com.sg/~code17/usblcd_index.html edit: software support might be limited with these things
That could work... wish i had chematics and software for such thing... looks simple enough to make... exept for the programming part of it...
Well come to lcdinfo or liqudmp3 forums, schematics and info on the USB2LCD project can be requested there
If you have a free PCI slot, something a bit like this should do the trick. This PCI card would work fine with the LCD. I got a twin serial + 1 parallel PCI card (all in one) for £10, and it works fine alongside the PCs built in ports.
Rather than converting the LCD to USB, why not use the adaptor with the printer? Thats what they were ment to work with, right?
