how can you tell....

how can u tell if ur cpu is fried? Will the processor still become warm if u turn on the computer when your cpu is fried?

 

If it's dead, it's dead. Like anything that is dead, it stays cold.

What happened?

 

im not really sure... i freakin kicked my comp on accident and the fan and heatsink on the cpu kinda nudged off while my computer was on. then my comp died and monitor went black.

after that i tried turning on my pc, it seemed like everthing was fine but the monitor had no signal and stayed black. sooo im hoping that it is my cpu messed up cus i just orderd a intel core2duo

 

yup. cpu is dead. giving voltage to a cpu without a heatsink. its dead.

 

Make sure nothing else has slipped.

If the HSF "nudged" off either you didn't fit it properly or you booted it.

 

try remounting the cpu and then the heatsink

 

one easy way is to throw in an old cpu in there, if it boots with the old one, and not with the new one, then you know whats wrong!
