Hello all, BTW i'm not a newbie (sort of) A little sroty of what happened to me at work and a chance for anyone to say hello Anyway, i was at work and had to put a mobile p3 1.2 cpu (which arnt cheep) into a machine. I notice one of the pins was bent, to i got the old pliers out to straighten it. I grabbed the pin and my hand got jogged and ripped the pin out. So obviously i dont want to tell the boss, so i thought i'd just put it in anyway. But to my amazement, it booted up and went into windows. I found no fault and left it. Any ideas why it still worked? Thanks DG
Welcome to the Forums! Not sure why it still worked, but you may find that errors begin to pop up in the future. i would just keep it quiet and hope no one notices if I were you!
i may have a go on my XP2000+ later... or maybe not, lol. good idea on the game, keep taking it in turns, pulling a pin out, untill it dosnt work, hehe. .icecube
You got lucky mate i think that cpu has about 100 pins? or more? And about 2 of them do a grounding function ! You got a 1% chance of the CPU still working and it did! LOL
/me runs off to get wire cutters from the shed to chop pins off my cpu, right which 1 of you will buy me a shiny new one when i tell you how many pins less it takes to stop it working ?
i guess newer processor's pins are much more delicate, but when making a keychain out of my old 486dxII processor, i had to grap the pins with the pliers, and bend them back and forth at least 10 times while pulling had for it to come off.
