Great, since my monitor blew up I'm forced to use this 14" IBM one. I can't get into LINUX as the monitor settings is set to 1024x768 @ 85Hz, this monitor just won't work at those resolutions. So, is there a way of changing it to 800x600 @ 60Hz say in command rather then through the GUI (as i can't get into the GUI )? :(

    I've tried typing..

    MODE X800 Y600 C32000 EX1 EY2 F60

but some reason LINUX doesn't recognise all UNIX commands. :miffed:

I think you'll need to edit your XF86Config file.
    Located at /etc/X11/XF86Config IIRC.

    Moved to Linux.

    Yup, Hwu is right :)

it might be called XF86Config-4 though.

grab vi and gouge away :D

You want to look for a section with a listing of your resolutions, change the first one to whatever you need (8x6)

Then you should be able to see somewhere in there listing a refresh rate, switch that to your 60 Hz.

I don't have a Linux install I cna look off of, so I'm sorry that I can't help any more than that.

They should be mid way through the file I believe.
