I might do this window how do i cut the dragon? what bits for a dremel do i need? im either gonna cut that or put a piece of acrylic there and etch, but how do i etch? or should i do this?
If i recall correctly, there are special dremel kits that have all sorts of different tools you can use. The kit costs a fair bit more then some standard cutting wheels though.
the first dragon will be bloody hard to cut, mebby redesign it somehow.. or make a template and spray an etch-esque substance on the back of the acrylic (might be more even then the etching I've seen done with dremals). and your second design has been over done in my opinion, well its a bit standard and unoriginal.
If money is less of an issue, look around for someplace that might do laser cutting, or water jet cutting... Of course, I won't be responisble if the price causes heart failure, divorce, or bankruptcy...
I would do a window like the second pic and carve in the dragon edges and sortov engrave the inside. Avner did something like that here is a link.http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=56963
ya im thinking about doing that for the sake of easiness, and i kinda wanna have 2 top windows on both sides so you can see through the case
A lot of patience + a vast hand + dremel cutting wheels (incl. fibre reinforced) + cheap dremel tool = It'll be a lot easier then mine was.....just my 2 cents...
ok well i think im gonna go pick up probly some more renforced disks, a carbide cutter and an etching bit from walmart, would that be good?
I think you mean a steady hand, not a vast one. A vast hand implies you have a really ginormous hand for you non-dutchies: een vaste hand = a steady hand.
well i have a pretty steady hand ya so im gonna pick up another pack of reenforced discs, a carbide cutter, and then an etchers bit and all my paint and stuff
xD, soz. Sometimes I mix dutch and english words in sentences because I prefer to talk english but live in NL. 'neways, he's right. I meant a steady hand. Here's a big hint: SAVE UP THE USED (non-cracked/damaged....just smaller) CUTTING DISCS. 'Cos you'll need a lot of them to do the tiny spaces and curves. hint 2: To do the very small parts. Dremel at the inside of the side panel (because the disc is round, the outside will have a smaller gap than the inside. This way it'll look better at the outside since you won't see the metal of the side panel in the gap on the outside.) hint3: If you plan to dremel like me (6 hours straight), get something for your neck....I could barely move my head
after I've seen JoyRider's fantastic piece of work, I'll have to change my opinion to option 1. but i still think some of the finer work will be hard... but good luck
Ya ill be cutting all of it from the inside Im just gonna try the top half of the dragon first, then if its too hard just make dual windows and etch the dragon (or a more complicated thing) what do you think would look better dual windows with the dragon etched on the top window (a top window on both side panels) or the dragon cut out? so i just print the pic of the dragon right? and then draw it on the side panel after tapin it up?
Or youy could tape the picture really tight to the side and cut throgh that if you have bad handwriting.
handwriting? lol ya i meant tape the pic up, its just what do i print it with (ms word or something?) cuz its probly too big for one piece of paper but ya should i turn the dragon so the head faces the cd drives? If i do, do the dragon what should i do on my other side panel? (the one that you dont normally see) i think it would be kinda cool for a top window on both sides, and just etching the dragon on the top window (the one that you mostly see) cuz i think being able to see right through the case would be cool like this window layout just with the same top window on the other side panel, so you see right through it and a dragon etched on the top panel, should i do it?
If you do the dragon without top window then you shouldn't point the head to the cd-drives, I think it would look shite that way....The cool part should not be messed up by the bg or its enviroment. Top windows could be cool, but then I think you'd better not etch the dragon on the top window, but leave it clear. Instead etch the dragon in the bottom window (only lines, don't do whole parts, no one can level-etch at the same height at a whole part. If you do want to do the parts, try sandblasting or laser) Etching: You could print out the drawing and then cut out the lines what you want to etch/dremel. Or try laying down onto the place you want it and then get a cloth and thinner. Rub some over the letters and peel off the paper. Viola, letters on your side panel/plexi glass. And it's not too hard, I guarantee you that since the side panel you saw was my very first one......I've only made a 2nd (spiderweb concept) since then.
