I have an iPod that I want to sell, but it's got my name laser etched on the back of it. How difficult would it be to take that off, and how crappy would it end up looking? I know it could be done by just scratching it of with sandpaper or something, but that'd look really bad, and I'd like it to look at least somewhat professional. If anybody has any ideas how such a thing would be achieved, I would appreciate it.

Sorry if this is an inappropriate thread for this forum, it's kind of modding related... well... un-modding so to speak :worried:. Either way, I think this forum has the highest concentration of dremel-expertise on the internet, so if anybody knows, somebody here would. Hopefully.

    Thanks in advance.

Well it's like polishing, you sand down, get finer and finer with the paper, then wet sand and whatnot, then polish. You might want to get some feedback from others though first.

Take it to a jewellers and ask them to engrave a solid rectangle over the top of the laser etch, that might not look too bad.

buy a new chrome back for it off ebay and fit that one.... surely would have been the most logical answer here...

Paint over it in chrome paint :p

I'm sure a replacement back can't be too expensive on ebay, or you might want to try some fine abrasives...

Try sanding and polishing, and if that fails drop $15 or whatever on a new back from ebay.

Let the next owner worry about such minor details.
