Depends on what you're connecting to/through and how handy you are with a soldering iron. You could get some kynar wire from radio shack (30AWG) and very carefully and delicately solder onto those pins with a tiny bit of solder and a low watt, fine tipped iron.

Or, you can look for a 14 pin rectangular ribbon receptacle at digikey.com in the dimensions of your cable.

Unless you are a mad soldering machine or have a few spares, try for an addapter.

That Flexible Flat Cable (FFC) isn't really hard to solder, looks tiny but should be well do-able. What brand is your LCD?
My Optrex 320x240 has this 14 way FFC cable too, but it also has an equivalent 14 pin solder-pad on the PCB which can take standard 2.54mm header pins or soldered onto directly.

/btw how about those SED boards, any news? :)

I'm assuming these are flat ribbon cables, with the copper traces printed on. Kinda like a PCB on flexible plastic. Am I right? If so, I think you'd have a bit of troubles. If you could clean it enough that you had a good copper connection, it'd be okay-ish, but I've tried soldering on flat ribbon cables inside keyboards, and it just melts the plastic substrate.

Even if you do get it soldered on nice and tidy, it's not going to be very strong -- it'll probably break off with only a small amount of moving.

    an' dat's my opinion.

Of the pins? I'd have to make a pic of the backside then, monday.
Here's an overview on how i connected my SED board to the Optrex

The FFC cable can't be seen, it's tucked away behind the LCD.

Yes, nothing special. I guess your Sharp doesn't have the solder pads, just the FFC cable eh?
I'll take a pic of the backside Monday.
