I was looking at this modding forum and I really want to start modding the case on my 360... but I have no idea how. Can anyone help me out?
well, first of all you need to figure out what you want to do/what the end result should look like. After that it's just a matter of cutting/filing/painting/soldering/swearing/hammering or whatever you choose to do. Planning what you need to do will (hopefully) keep you from making mistakes along the way.
You can save yourself a lot of time and hassle, by simply replacing the whole case, just the faceplate, or by buying different skins (stick-on transfer kitss) for the 360 and the gamepads. 360 Replacement Cases Chrome 360 Faceplate + 360 Polished Black Faceplate + 360 Faceplates + Skins 360 Console + Gamepad Skins
How do I mod? I usually start by covering myself with a warm wet blanket in a dark room and just moan softly in there for a good couple of hours. Then I proceed to blindfold myself and start cutting on the steel chassis with a rusty dull jigsaw blade made for wood while not using any kind of protective gear, making sure to cut as close to the fingers as possible. Sorry, couldn't resist. In all seriousness though...mod very carefully, and good planning beforehand.
Hazardous, doesn't what you just said defy the point of modding? Planning is the key! Don't try and do what you don't have the capabilities to do otherwise you will end up going nowhere. Take your time because these things always take longer than expected.
While the is a valuable tool to have it's not always the best/right tool; depending on what I'm doing it's sometimes the tool I use the least.
Have a flick though the project logs forum for ideas and inspiration. It shouldn't be too hard to adapt to your 360. I remember seeing a 360 mod on here some where. I'll have a look for you.
Get started! the sooner you start modding the sooner you will learn to cover up ur mistakes like I do
In the strictest sense of the word.. yes indeed. But I only suggested skins etc in this particular instance, because the OP states... As you've advised... Not only might he/she get nowhere... but they could end up with a 360 which is next to useless - depending on what they try to do, obviously. If they've never done any modding before... it would be much better to practice on an old PC case (modding), or even just scraps of metal (cutting) first, to hone their various skillsm, before attempting anything on something as expensive as a 360
I got a transparent blue case and wired in a couple of 4" blue cold cathodes into mine. Took about 20 mins total and only involved soldering the power lead to the cathode transformer onto the mobo (only 2 wires to solder on), then putting it all back together with the new case. Ironically I've hardly used the thing since.
first step: source tons of cash second step: move somewhere where noise in the evening / weekend wont get you kicked out third step: plan what you want to do fourth step: buy tools and part needed fith step: start modding sixth step: post pictures on bit-tech seventh step: repeat step 3 - 6 till step one becomes necessary again.
LOL! Nice... Thanks for all that... uhm... useful info... 0.0 Really, though, thanks for the info on how to mod, and I hope I'll be modding soon! Justin
