I'm currently running a 2.4c at 3GHz, but I wondered if it was time to try for something a little better .... :D
This would only be as a stopgap until much later in the year when I intend to buy a top-end CPU, new motherboard, GPU, RAM etc, so I don't want to spend too much.
How easy would it be to overclock a watercooled 3.0c ??
Could I o/c up to 3.75 running PC4000 RAM synchronously (sp?).
Overclocking my 2.4c to 3.0 was as easy as raising the FSB from 200 to 250, would 3.0 Ghz to 3.75 Ghz be as easy ?
I have my doubts, which is why I'm asking you guys .....

    Thanks,

    Olly :D

    Its possible but not gauranteed.

I would say that you will most probably hit 3.6 GHz, but anything above that will be tough to achieve.

Recently there was a chip being sold on forums which hit 3.8 GHz with a Zalman cooler, so I guess there are chips out there that will do it, but at the end of the day, it is the luck of the draw.

it's like asking how long is a piece of string.

you wont know if you don't try. Just keep your full load temp below 50'C and you'll be fine.

hell if you're saving up for high end stuff, go with prometia (sp?) cooling. it's about 700 for the Mach I unit, which is basically the same as the Mach II that is 299 more. it's basically a refrigerator in your pc. i've seen it keep cpu's at about -30 celcius. this guy had a P4, it was a 3.0 or 3.2 stock, and he was running it at 4.0, and even had it to 4.5 before it crashed. go to tech tv, search for yoshi's super pc. or soemthing like that. watch the video too. the system might be just what you're looking to do. he's got all high end stuff. he's using corsair xms pro ram (i think it's 3200, it's the kind with the ram coolers and it has lil LED lights on it so it tells you how efficient it is running) well, there you go. check it out.

Even with watercooling, my processors been running at 53C at 100% load 24/7 for god knows how long now.

The temperature readouts from the motherboard are not reliable enough to go by. As long as your PC is stable and isnt going into thermal shutdown, it should be fine.

50 is a rough guideline, I tend to aim for 50'C max, but you can run it right upto around 70'C if you really want to. Providing it's stable and the heatsink is doing its job correctly, you can run it as warm as you want.

3.4 to 3.5 is fairly easy to attain, but it will be around 45-50 degrees with most heatsinks, without really good cooling they just wont take a 250fsb like my 2.8 :D

My 3.0c is running at 3.0 at the moment with an SLK900 ASIII and a Smartfan @ 3k rpm @ 54.5 degrees as i look at it now.

The processor has ran @ 3.5* or sommat with a 5:4 divider however, prime was saying it wasnt stable so i backed it down. Even though i hadnt seen any stability issues when playing games and benching etc.

From what i have seen of the 3.0c you will hit a limit around 3.6 as someone else mentioned. Mine posted at 3.6 but was far from stable lol.

Maybe with some more fiddling and increasing the cpu voltage more it may go higher, but i didnt wanna risk it ;)

I've seen a 2.8C at over 4.2Ghz 3dmark stable on XS... that was using bog standard watercooling, nothing special about the watercooling. :)
