Apologies if you're expecting a punchline to the subject. Suggestions welcome!!!! I'm due support a site that hosts mutiple sites (around 5 just now) on an IIS 5.0 server (I know, I know, I would prefer Apache as well) but are wanting to host many more. The sites should all contain static content. I'm interested to know how many sites it's feasible for a single IIS 5.0 server to host. Someone has told me he has hosted 70 websites from one box before. The server is behind a nice fat pipe, so bandwidth is not an issue.
Is it hosted on a box running a server edition OS (as opposed to just 2K/XP pro for example)? If not, then it'll be set to 10 as standard and using more will violate the user agreement. If it is, you could do a lot more than 5, but an exact number I can't give. Just thought it was worth chiming in with that little point, there
Our server at work is hosting over 200 sites with IIS5, so long as you've got enough CPU and RAM, and disk depending on the traffic, then you'll be fine. The limit is probly something like 1024.
4 1 to realise the light bulb has blown 1 to make a website telling people how to change it 1 to read the website and tell the hologram iis what to tell its light bulb changing hologram to do
