Hi to everyone, i am yet another new member and relatively new to computers (4/5months). Here Goes, I am just about to start my first case mod, (Orac influenced) and would like to know how many LEDs you can run off one molex plug, as I plan to devise some sort of box with all the wiring for my LEDs inside and I want to be able to plug one molex plug into the box to provide the power for the LEDs which will be placed in various places around my case. Many Thanks MAXXBASHER........
Thanks for reply, unfotunately I had not looked into what voltage i was going to use but you have just raised another question i know the power from a molex is around 5v 7v 12v (please correct me if this is wrong) plus which voltage LEDs would you recommend.
well normal are about 2 volts super brights are about 3 1/2 vols and ultra bright are 5 volts i would choose normal for the most but ultra for more light more normal for light or less ultra for light so i would choose the 3 1/2 volts for they are in between
Generally, it goes on colour. Red, yellow, amber and most green are 2.0-2.2V, blue, white and pure greens are 3.5-3.7V in 95% of cases. As a led only draws about 20mA and you can put a few in series, you can run well over 500 off a molex, dfhaii wasn't kidding you.
I would say you can safely pull 6A over a singe molex pin(maybe more), so if they are all in parallel, and 20ma a piece, 300 on the 12v line, and 300 on the 5v line. But if you are running chains of 5 on the 12v line and chains of 2 on the 5v line, you then have 2100 leds (if you are using 2.0-2.2V leds) If you have than many, you need to do something else. (besides you are probably blind from all the LEDs)
