Nightly as this is my baby and my wife said to me one day that I love this more than her. i just do not ask me that question as she wouldn't like the answer
Netbook: only with updates Main rig: nightly ( but only since taking over the power bills, before that, maybe restart once a month )
With the exception of servers, folders and torrent addicts.. why do most of you leave it on? This is baffling me completely. I turn mine off even if I'm only away for an hour. It takes around 45 seconds to boot.... and I'm usually in the kitchen making coffee when that happens anyway. What's the big deal? Even if there's work in progress, I'll hibernate.. so it's still off. Why waste power for no good reason?
well other than being a heavy torrent user, it takes my machine about 1-1.5 minutes to boot. and to be blunt im pretty impatient. also im not paying the power bill
i just noticed i never really answered the question in my previous post. lol all machines get turned off nightly, however recently since moving to vista i have started using the sleep function alot more, especially this week as i am writing a heavy report and pop out once in a while to stretch my legs so i am gone for 15-20min's at most. If its planned that my away period is longer than that then it goes off off. My NAS/downloader is currently having open stomach surgery as it gets more storage capaticy, but i havent had time to devote to it recently in order to finish it. When finished it will be on pretty much all day and unless its torrenting overnight. Its a low power unit so i dont mind. Once finished and it pays off with its usefulness i shall upgrade it to an atom or something to really drop the power usage!
every night as ive got a LED fan big mistake and noise and i do nothing to justify it being on all night
whats wrong with ebuyer? theyv been awesome with me, free delivery means next day delivery, and the returns department are top notch.
They messed up 2 returns, one got sent to the other side of the country despite all my details being up to date after making a purchase with them before it. then my motherboard i got one return which was doa, sent back for money back and took about 2 weeks to get my money back.. oh and the customer support lieing to me about set things but yeah generally 2 bad experiences so im just gonna not use em again, will stick with scan, dabs and novatech and the odd buy from aria
My power supply lights up blue. It's cool, but not really since I have no other lit parts. I got it because it was the best value and got good reviews, but now I have this annoying blue light which just illuminates everything in my room, and no way to switch it off besides turning the PC off.
lol, the only way i can turn mine off is taking side off and unplugging etc but thats quite alot of hassle as i'd have to replug it in later which the case is a mid tower, with a non modular PSU and then a slimmer than usuall ATX mobo its quite cramped xD
mine used to run all night, torrent downloads n what not at uni so that housemates could browse with ease during the day. now i'm older and wiser and dont use torrents anymore, the pc goes off every night! but now with winter coming, i discover that my room is poop at staying warm, so the pc stays on(but thanks for w7, the hdd's spin down after 60 mins inactivity which saves their lives for sure. Also, started using sleep, as with w7 its lickety split, like 5 seconds from touching the mouse and i can mash my keyboard to get that password in again, love it! peace fatman
Absolutely, it only takes about 30 seconds to boot and in that time I tidy up my desk a little then sit down and it's ready to use. Not only that but it generates too much heat (and light) and I can't sleep comfortably at night. And it's a waste of electricity, even though I don't foot the bill it's unfair on my parents to have to fork out lots of their hard earned money on my computer. Nor do I want the bill to be passed onto me!
right now, my main PC gets shut down (or more accurately crashes) about once a week, though ti uised to go for a month or more before I pushed it over the edge. My new machine gets shut down whenever I'm not using it (bit of a waste to have 2 PC's running side by side when I'm mostly using one).
