I remember being on a course a few years before the last one I mentioned, where someone did exactly that. They took the rubber connection off the side of a dumb terminal they were building from a kit (Zenith I think) after they tried to power it up. They had to "collect their thoughts" for a while after. (This forum needs a "zapped" smiley!) PS Smilodon, have you seen these?
well, when my guitar valve amp started playing up, i took a look inside. no i didnt get a shock, but those caps were still holding 40 volts after about 3 days. the thing was shocking ( ), 500 volts, and a massive current draw too... would blow u to pieces if u touched the wrong thing. yes it did have drain resistors over the caps... these caps were the size of toilet rolls, and rated to 1000v!
Generally these are connected to a 15A breaker or fuse is residential applications. Sometimes you'll get a circuit that is on a 20 breaker, these are tipically in the kitchen area.
