    I want to setup a network as follows.

    Internet --> Netgear FVS318 --> Smoothwall --> My pc
    There are three other computers connected to the netgear. I just want the smoothwall on my PC and file server.

    How secure will I be behind the Netgear hardware firewall and the smoothwall?

    More secure than with just one or the other, but you are still defenseless against stuff that you accidently download, so keep that in mind, you should still run a software firewall on your computer along with virusscan and a good spyware/adware removal tool.

    A pc is as secure as the person behind it... :) but I ask, why that order? Letting the others go through the smootwall won't harm...

    You'll be pretty secure as long as you don't download junk.

    Well, I dont want programs they use and I dont, to have access through it. So if I just put it on my pc and file server then I can have it very secure.

    I agree with crazydeep74 here. Having your PC on a separate network than the others helps keep viruses from spreading (or ones similar to the blaster worm anyways.)

    And thats pretty secure. Though, where is your file server? Is it the smoothwall box? Is it on the netgear box? I'd recomend getting a little switch with you, the file server, and the smoothie.

    I'll have to draw up my network diagram sometime :)

    Can I come work for you? :)

    I've seen the ratemynetworkdiagram before. Was planning on submitting my diagram once I've drawn it up.
