K i dont have too much time to do all of this

    Paint guide

So can i follow what this guy did

    Chrome painting from OCforums

    the guy says

1 - Sand everything down with some 220 grit sandpaper. Don't take all the paint off. You just want to rough it up some so the paint has something to stick to.

2 - Grab a microfiber cloth and rub everything down with some isopropyl alcohol.

3 - Spray a light coat of primer. Wait like 10 minutes, then spray another coat. Repeat until you have about 3 or 4 light coats. Wait a couple hours for it to dry somewhat.

4 - Grab some 400 grit sandpaper and quickly go over everything. You just want to flatten it out and remove any dust nibs that decided your paint job looked like a nice home. Don't put too much effort into it.

5 - Spray a coat of Chrome paint. Wait 15 minutes, spray another coat. Repeat until you are happy with the coverage.

6 - Wait about an hour, then if you want to use some clear coat, here is the method I learned from DeViL_909: Hold the can about 2 feet away from the surface you are going to paint and mist on a very light coat. Wait 15 minutes and repeat as many times as you want. DO NOT spray a heavy coat of clear coat. You will ruin the paint job.

7 - Let it dry for a few days inside your house.

and you can see the pics in the link. So basically thats a quick way to get the "orange peel" texture. SO can i just do that and skip the whole first part of the first paint guide i linked? just do the first part without clear coat, then apply a crap load of color coats, sand with 600, 1000, 1500 then 2000 grit sand paper and then put some rubbing compound on it? would that get around the same mirror finish as in the guide?

yeah, but the paint would get scratched *really* easily, and lose it's shine even more easily...

that is the propper way to paint, however it is so much easier in theory than practice.

taken me years to get decent, and i still mess up all the time.

see if you cant find an old case side or something to practice on. if youre still in school see if you cant talk the tech dept into finding some for you. makes life so much easier if you know what to expect.
