I get a fair amount of spam (~15 per day) and they kindly make it obvious by replacing letters with other symbols: I have signed up to get legitimate AutoCAD emails, but this one is so obviously fake. It seems so dumb... Why do they do that? ch424
15 a day! If I left my email client unopened for 24 hours I would have at least 60 of them, Pharmacys, Rolex watches, S0f7ware, Fake ebay, fake paypal, mortgage, loans, banks. I suppose I have my email adress in far too many places,
I have an account which has had 1 peice of spam since 1996... however none of my other addys are crap free without spam blocking software. I have one that collects a fair ammount tbh that would more then make up for my spam free one
I have an email that I use just for signing up to stuff and receiving spam! Oh the joys of POP mail! Think I have 7 email addresses that I use daily!
I get loads of spam one one of my three email addresses, but none on the others.. And yes, they are stupid. Who would actually buy anything from a spammer? or is that not the idea anyway?
I've not had a single piece of spam(at least that I havn't signed up for) in the last 3 years. The secret? Get a private domain, pay for a mail service, and don't give out your primary email address to any company or anything you don't trust.
I have 2 Gmail and one Hotmail, I use one Gmail for personal contacts. Another for random signups for crappy one-time views of whatever, and hotmail for online orders and other signups. The second Gmail account has tons of spam, after using my gmail account for about a year, I finally got a single piece of spam in my personal gmail account. Not sure how but it's only one anyway, something along the lines of: Yea, sure I'll buy viagra with your invisible link...
I just found out that if you Gmail address is ihatespam@gmail.com, you can also use i.hatespam@ or ih.atespam@ or put a dot where you want... this means you can give different variations to different services, letting you know that anything coming a certain one is spam... YAY! ch424
Used to get loads of Spam and then I un-subscribed from a couple of email things and then all but 2/3 a day stopped. Strange really GiGo
I use my blueyonder acount for my personal day to day e-mails. Then Gmail for signing up for stuff. I very rarely get spam in my blueyonder account but have a ton of it in gmail.
Not true, you have to register ihate.spam@gmail.com then ihatespam@gmail.com will be routed to you, not the other way around. Anyway, the recent story has been cleared up since the guy who brought it to attention had actually just addressed the email wrong. However you can sign up to crap using 'username+x@gmail.com' where x can be anything (eg 'spam') then create a filter to move it to trash or something.
It's because many spam filters are keyword based and by mis-spelling the keywords they can defeat the filters. The ones I can't figure out are the blank emails. They have a from address, but no subject line, no content, and almost nothing in the hearer. I assume these must have some way of telling if I open them so as to troll for active addresses, but I haven't figured it out yet.
Sounds to me like we need a spell-checking spam filter... Your E-mail has too many mis-spellings, especially those beginning with 'V' and 'C', and it gets spam-boxed.
kewl, bt wot bout the chavs n stuf liek tht ininit mate? Not everyone spends as much time as me or you checking spelling and grammer you know.
You honestly want to read an email from a chav? If you can't be arsed to spell an email correctly, surely sombody else not being bothered to read it should come as no suprise?
I used get about 60-70 a day, luckily now most of them get filtered out by gmail so I only have to sit and delete when I remember to log into that. The spam filters on everything else dont really come up to scratch though
