I have finally got my PI and XMBC running, seems it didn't like my wireless keyboard, purchased a dirt cheap trust usb keyboard and could then get into programs and change a few settings. It still stopped accepting keyboard inputs after a while though The most important thing though is that for the time being at least my tv can once again see my PI. As I intend to run the PI as a headless streaming server I would like to be able to control it remotely from my laptop, I have tried tightVNC and tried to ssh into it but with no luck. All I want to be able to do is shut it down properly at night. If any can give me some pointers that would be great, thanks.
Hmm we have a Samsung Galaxy so the android app is a possibility. Can't use an MCE remote as it will be headless so I wouldn't be able to see what I'm doing.
Get the Yatse android app and not the official one. The Yatse is much better. No connection time outs and such.
Thanks, I noticed that one when downloading the official one and downloaded it as well. Got to hook the PI back up to the tv now and make the necessary settings changes now.
Quite possibly. I can't get anything setup as the keyboard keeps stopping shortly after use on the desktop. I am using an adaptor from an old blue tooth ear piece that's rated at 5v and 850ma do you think that could be causing the issue? I'm just trying the charger from my galaxy but that's rated lower at 700ma. I'm reluctant to spend anymore to get this thing going properly.
When I was following the RaspPI details with all the concerens over power levels using a powered USB hub was planned for reassurance
Changed power supply and now all is working (stupid $£%%"^" motorola adaptor). All this hastle I have been getting was down to that damn thing. Looks like I need to buy a decent adaptor. Even got Yatse working at my first attempt. AWESOME. Thanks Guys Unfortunately pressing the power button doesn't autmoatically shut the PI down but brings up the menu so I still don't really have a headless way of shutting it down
Found a setting where you can change what the power button actually does in the controller so that's sorted now. This was going to be my last attempt at getting the PI and XMBC working so I'm really pleased it's all panned out.
