I got some 18 gauge oxygen free copper braided wire (Monster ProLine product). It is sold for use as speaker wire though I have a different use in mind. I want to be able to glue or bond several sets of wires together. Each wire is typical speaker wire with two conductors. I tried hot glue, but the stuff doesn't stick very well to the insulation. I think the insulation is some form of polypropylene if that helps. Here is a pic that shows kind of what I am doing. I will be adding in two more sets of wires so the connector is filled. After I get in the wires I want to be able to bond them together.
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_to_glue_polypropylene What about sewing the wires together? A thin needle with thin copper wire could be slipped through the middle plastic to attach the cables together.
I think I wouldn't try to use copper wire as I would be afraid that there might be an electrical connection. However a thin piece of linen thread might do the trick. I am trying to get a natural look of bare copper wires that will be used throughout my FF project. I just tried a very thin width of transparent heat shrink. It works, but I was hoping for a better solution.
I was going to suggest heatshrink... Sorry, no other ideas, but that power connector looks like it's going to look amazing. I'm looking forward to seeing finished pics!
I already have done one of them and the other one will be pinned tomorrow. Both will go to my video card. The fun part will be doing the 24 pin connector and the SATA power cables. I tried it in silver color wire already, but the copper looks better to me.
In my sufing, I have run across clear heat shrink and never could figure out what to use it for. For YOU! wander around http://www.buyheatshrink.com/heatshrinktubing/index.htm scary site with many different "things" including adhesives and adhesive heat shrink. They offer samples and small lots in their verbage. a thought. john
How about using fishing line to sew them together? It would be plenty strong and pretty much invisible. Alternatively I have seen people make wire clamps to be spaced regularly down the cable and keep each wire in position, it looked very good but I can't remember who did it to show you a pic. Moriquendi
Moriquendi beat me to it. I've seen my mom use fishing line to sew boat seats together, so it can be used in a sewing machine too. Do they make liquid electrical tape in clear? -Skip that. I'm not sure it will stick without a complete covering.
Thanks for all the great ideas! I'm currently back in the hospital, but I should be out in a day or two. Then I'm cruising the fabric shop for some needles and then the sporting goods store for some fine fishing line.
This made me think of this old thread: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=176032 Hope it's helpful.
There was a technique already!?!? I tried to do something like that in Bloo. That would have been handy when I did it. My way failed miserably. (The katana handle wrap technique doesn't work on flexible objects, BTW...)
