One of my CD drives met with an unfortunate accedent and got more voltage than it could handle on the 5 volt line. It is not a system critical componet, but I' still like to try and fix it. Trying to trace into the circuit and find the dead components, I realised how little I know about the markings of surface mount components. I have no problems working on them, just IDing them. In particular, there are a couple of components marked as FBxxx in printing on the PCB (xxx is the component #). What are these parts? Also, is there a guide to interpreting the makings of these parts to tell what value a resistor, capacitor or diod eare as well as if the three legged device is a regulator, BJT, FET, ect? I have enough old junk to swipe components from that I think I can fix the drive.
While that info helps, it doesn't tell me what this lousy gray thing is that the pcb siply identifies as FBxxx like how caps are labeled Cxxx, diodes Dxxx, resistors Rxxx and so on. I have no idea what this thing might be.
