    Hi folks,

I'm looking for some help "restoring" an old and faded picture. It's been on display in a frame since 1979 hence most of it has faded, though around the border the image has not been exposed hence is looking good.

I've scanned hit at uber high dpi and am currently messing around with Picassa and Gimp to try and make it better. Trouble is I don't really know what I'm doing!

    Any thoughts or advice welcome!

    Many thanks,

    Cleggy,

Restoring pictures is sort of a case by case basis which techniques are best used. Most faded will be mostly working with color balance and/or contrast adjustments. If you are able to post the picture, you'll probably get better specific advice.

Any chance the negative might still be knocking around in the loft somewhere? That'll give you something better to work from, or even just a straightforward reprint by a photolab.

A little gamma correction does wonders for faded pictures I find- when I scan in my paintings the colours can become very washed out and pale, and contrast/saturation adjustments doesn't quite or always do the trick. Worth a shot ( negative direction to bring out details works in the program I use ( PhotoFiltre free version ) ).

You can touch up it by PhotoShop if you know how it make it or you can just download some photo booth to make it more clearner. Multiple motheds can be applied, the first thing is to google it online but not post here. Good luck for you.l:clap:

There is no one way to do this. It depends what's wrong. I really need to see it to decide how best to restore it.
