Yep, this has been my first try ever.

Today I tried this on a Linksys 10/100 card. I first set off trying the wrong way, finally realizing that its triggered active low (the ACT led).

So the circuit is very simple:

+5v ---------RESISTOR-------|>|-----------ground of led on NIC.

calculate the resistor like you would any normal led:

    source voltage - forward voltage/current (usually 20mA or 0.02A)

I used 75ohms with my 3.3fv ultrabright led running it @ 21mA. Simply relocate the NIC led where ever you like !!!

is it just your video or is that LED laggy as hell?

also, is that simply an extention of your act light or what?

I might do this. My case has three led places on the front. The third is supposed to be for turbo mode, but nothing has that anymore. Thanks for the info! :D

yer, i saw this done in a case similar to mine about 6 months ago and implemented it into mine, i just de-soldered the old led and its housing and put in 2 pins which connected to 2 pin connectors (like those you'd find on a fan, only 2pin) and wired it up to a led on my door of my case.

    very bright tho.

I did this also, quite a while ago. I relocated the Link and Activity LEDs by removing the existing LEDs and soldering on a standard jumper block (they fit perfectly) so I can have the LEDs in the front of my case (they are in the grill on my sx1030) and I can simply unplug the led headers to remove the card.

Having the link light in the front is super useful for occasions where you move the PC a lot, like LAN parties.

Not original. Zap has this on his Ammo PC, but I'm not too sure if he's got UltraBright's :naughty:

Anyways, I do not recommend ultrabrights if your PC faces you directly, what you CAN do is connect a 1Kohm pot instead of a resistor (just make sure it is NOT at zero when you boot up  )

This is simply the ACT led. I have no need to see the 100BaseT led as I know this machine is @ 100BaseT, BUT if you like just grab the ground off that and have a second led. I actually got space for this, might do it if I get bored ;)

Laggy Video: Thanks for pointing this out. The led flashes SO quickly (and these ultrabrights are very impressive at this!) my crappy DSC (its not its job anyways) can not capture this!!!

It is a fairly easy mod now that you know exactly what to do. I recommend the Linksys EtherFast 10/100 PCI network cards as they got very nice silkscreening at the top TELLING you which led pin is anode/cathode

And these come pretty cheap, £9 @ Amazon.co.uk and $18 @ Amazon.com so if you shop else where .... EVEN CHEAPER!

Plug your NIC in first cause some have bicolor leds, wotn be a problem all this means is that when it swaps to the 'other color' your ground with be 'high' and 'high' will become pulsing ground.... i.e. your led will go off...

I did something similar a while back... but I just plugged some LED's onto the link and activity headers on the card :p much easier... shame I dropped something on the NIC though :waah:
