    Hello,

A relative wants me to fix their laptop that runs Windows Vista. When I try to boot it it comes up with an error saying that I need to use the installation disk to repair \Boot\BCD. Neither me nor my relative has a Windows Vista installation disk. How can we fix this problem? I may be able to get hold of a Windows 7 install disk, would that work as well?

    Thanks in advance :)

I'm sure a vista ISO should be easily obtainable with a Google search ;)!

Don't want to open up a dodgy topic, but my take is that if you own the key, you have a right to get the installation apparatus by the means you find relevant.

my take on this is that dodgy downloads MAY come with added extras that you don't really want

    Hi guys,

I actually got a disk of a friend in the end, sorry about not reporting back. I see there are some links to download the Vista iso for free, but does anyone know if there is a Vista Repair Disk? Does such a thing even exist? Just out of curiosity...

    Thanks,
    arachan.

Some of those links have dead downloads t4n6o, that's the issue I kept having when Googling.

Arachan; I think you'd be better off with the actual install disc. Not sure how a repair disc would function.

For anyone who wants it, I do have a 32 bit ISO available. As most know, it'll cover any edition of Vista but only 32 bit architecture.

I think a "repair disk" is burned on and specific to a particular PC. If you just want to make a generic repair, just grab a full ISO.

I had the same problem a little while ago when part of my harddisk died, killing a bunch of core Win7 files. I had my license key, but have lost the installation disk. In the end, I downloaded a new full ISO (making sure it was for a version that matched my key), burned it on a different computer, popped it in the drive and Windows auto-detected it and gave me the option to repair. Half an hour later everything was running perfectly.
