I tried to email my cousin a small dictionary (4.98 mb) but securities prevent executable files. Can I store files & programs online to share with others?. Must be a simple & free service. Thanks, Nick
If it's just an executable (or just a bunch of files), zipping will be easiest to do. Right click, send to-> compressed (zipped) folder i dont know any email software that doesnt allow .zip files
Thanx, I failed to do it. My wzip80 is free & although I have a lot of winzip files, may be I am not allowed to create one. I can enter a file in winzip but can not save the zip & email it later, please see foto of my right click entries ....... any help?
my friends and i all use Dropbox. its free. you get 2GB free when you sign up, and that amount increases when you invite more people (or if you pay). it keeps everyone whos sharing a dropbox folder with you automatically synced. its generally faster than uploading attachments (and it can use LAN transfers if your on the same network). youd both have to sign up though...
dropbox is pure awesomeness. I also use logmein to share files with others but I do have a paid account. It's great to right click a file, get a link and give it to someone so they can download it. Very useful
Don't use WinZip: in the right click context menu, Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder. Also, consider replacing WinZip with 7-Zip, a free alternative. Dropbox is another alternative for what you're trying to do, or if you and your contact both have Windows Live accounts, SkyDrive
I use skydrive 25GB free and you can also keept 5GB synced online with multiple users. I use it to keep copies of my work up to date on laptop and desktop and share with others.
M.Gibbon, 7-Zip behaves the same as winZip here, I can insert my .exe file in it, BUt then how do I save it to use it later? Like in Win Zip I cannot find instruction of how to use it.
If you want to email an executable you will also have to encrypt the archive, other wise email services will still find the executable.
Saw the topic and it struck me: Just post everything on PSN. If that fails, then DropBox, as knuck mentioned, is a good choice. And I've heard good things about SpiderOak as well.
I'm slightly unsure of what you're doing, what do you mean by save it to use later? If you're just trying to email it, use the Windows method i also described? Hope this helps
Tried that one too, besides WinZip & 7-Zip but all are refused by securities. I'll try Drobox if the other party can find it & use it
windows live skydrive you can store whatever you want, and share whatever you want, with whomever you want
SOLVED OK Thanks folkes for the overwhelming respond. tried most & found DropBox easy to manage. Says no need the other part to have the program but does not explain. I managed to do it by opening the to its web site, copy that URL & email it along with user name & password so he could get in & copy the executable file WoardWeb.exe, run it & install it. I am not sure if this is correct & fool proof way to go about it, "simple......chk..chk !!!"
the other party doesnt have to have the program, but they are "supposed" to have a dropbox account. then you can allow other users access to your dropbox files via the website. the way you did it works just fine though
you can sign up for an account without downloading anything onto your computer i believe. at least thats the way i understood it. admittedly i dont know much about that method because ive always just installed the program on my computers.
You both have to sign up like you would for e.g. GMail. But using the special software for DropBox isn't necessary to access the data. You can do that just by using a browser.
