When i saw highend games i mean DOOM 3, Far Cry ectr. Nvidia Geforce 6800 256MB Intel Pentuim 4 850 800 MHZ FSB 3.0 GHZ (probaly going to be overclocked) 512 Mb DDR ram ASUS motherboard not sure what type yet
the general thought is that A64's are better for gaming. And you'll really need 1 gig of ram as well if you want to run them with all bells and whistles.
<IMHO> an A64 would be a nice little addition but a P$ (especially OCd) should do very well. also id think forward, and go after tech like PCIx and DDR2 support. some people may scoff at this idea but even though they don't offer bounding preformance over their predecessors they will be good to have if NVidia or ATI releases a reall kick@$$ card before HL2 is officially released that takes advantage of the new buss, or DDR2 picks up the pace a little. currently i don't know of a A64 MOBO that supports PCIx and the A64 OMCs don't support DDR2. so if you want forward hardware compatability go intel (and if your falling for the youshouldhave64bitsupprt argument pick up a p4 with 64bit extensions </IMHO> but this is comming from an intel fan
I agreem, go for the PCI-express and the DDR2 (even though you have to pay out your ass for them), or you can wait for intel to come out with SATAII, faster DDR2 support, a 1066MHz FSB, and EM64T. If you put of making this rig for a couple months, it could really be worth it.
