Fine and dandy thanks. In fact I've pretty much flipped the bird at this so called economic down-turn. My finances have never been better and my job has never been more secure Friends and family also largely unaffected. Recession? What recession
I've got a job for now until I got to uni, and then I don't really have to worry about stuff to much for 4 years
Parents nearly lost 3 properties last year, they sorted it out, and now are stating. Oh how quickly people forget.
i got made redundant from the motor industry back in december and ive been working on a contract thing since jan, the money is good but the work is **** and im unhappy with it. contract ends soon and im stumped as to where to go now, I cant code for love or money so theres 90% of the it scene beyond my reach, id like to go into something that relies heavily on potoshop and designing but im just stuck as to whats available for someone who cant code
A little?! I suppose it depends what food you eat, but I am spending £30 instead of £20 now per week! I can't imagine how much a big family has been hit by that. It's a 50% increase.
Hasn't really affected me, I'm due to graduate next summer and I've got a job sorted with a company I'm doing my masters project with. Defence companies seem largely unaffected.
Redundancy Pending at the end of April for me... the joy of working in IT Support, we are easily replaced with cheap outsourced contractors.
The Architecture Vis industry is taking a hammering at the moment due to architects being trained in vray, sketchup etc... i would advise heading back to uni to do a degree in design if thats the route you want to take, but at the moment the design industry is getting hammered by companies basically axing new products.
I'm doing OK. Currently working as an HCA in a hospital, so pretty secure there. Also starting a six-year uni course in September, and both parents have (fairly) stable jobs despite working in banking, so overall, I'm pretty content.
Going okay for me so far. I have a job with a salary that comfortably pays all the bills. I don't have any debts (other than the mortgage). I am a little more careful with money, but still try to spend what I can in an effort to single handedly keep the economy afloat (I figure if everyone who was in a similar position tried to do this we'd soon be out of recession). I have seen some affects though; my neighbour lost his job as an Assembly line worker and hasn't had much luck yet finding anything else. My company aren't doing great but aren't doing badly either - just pootling along.
Fellow Product designer here, currently i am on placement working with in the medical field, which seems to be stable at the moment, but visiting companies shows me that there has been a slow down in production. However i am currently rushed off me feet! lol! But i am feeling the pinch, but job prospecs might be ok for me after uni.
My job seems to be ok and the recession isn't affecting me, however what I am annoyed about is the poor exchange rates. I'm saving up to go travelling next year and I'm praying that the exchange rate is far better than it is now!
I'm a little worried as my IT Helpdesk job either finishes or goes permanent in June, looks 90% likely to be the latter but still a bit scary. However if that does work out i'll be laughing! I've been wanting to move out and get my own place for years, and the house price crash has also caused local rent rates to drop like a stone
I'm doing okay at the moment. My family, unfortunately, is not faring quite as well. A sister with 4 children was laid off from her job of over 10 years in a construction-related industry. My daughter's part-time hours were cut to nothing, so she's a full-time mom now. Her fiance' is working one job, but it's not quite full-time hours, so things are quite tight. Crossing my fingers they all find a way to stabilize their finances.
The company I work for is going from strength to strength turning out record profits year after year. Which is awesome. Although I'm only in the retail side of things I'd like to move on into the corporate side of things, despite my recently completed degree being in film production... Which is difficult to get into regardless of how the economy is!
Still on the rock and role since BT decided to release me from my contract as "part of a strategic review within the BT Business" Still bitter - still jobhunting.
