Hi, I have just purchased a HP 2101nw wireless print server and for the life of me I can't get the stupid thing to work. I run through the wizard and follow it to the letter, I input my passkey for the wireless part and it says the same thing everytime, "can't find the print server on the wireless network from this machine". Waht am I doing wrong guys, I thought this would be simple and allow all our pc's access to the one printer. I have tried it on XP, Vista and Win 7. Thanks
having exactly the same problem have tried 3 different laptops and it won't install on any of them. Tech support is horrible: note at the end (top e-mail) they bail out and make you call the 800 number - who are also no help whatsoever.....where's Carly when you need her? _______________________ Hello Jeffrey, Thank you for replying to HP Total Care. The problem I'm having is that the install stops at the "can't find the printserver" screen. When I exit that screen, no connection manager icon appears, so the link below does not help. Hi Gregory, Have done the following: Check to see if there is a proper power supply to the printer and print server. Power is fine. Disconnect and reconnect the print server. Tried that to no effect. Check if a firewall is blocking access tothe print server. Turned off all firewalls at the PC and at the router. If so, contact the IT department to obtain access to the print server.Check if the print server is on the same subnet as the computer. If not, move the print server to the same subnet. This is a home system - there is no other subnet. If the issue still presists even after performing the above steps, I recommend thatyou once again go through the set up instructions carefully in the web link given below and verify if you are following the same. These are the instructions that came with the device. The continue to not work - I'm still getting the "can't find the printserver" screen at the end of the installation. I'd be glad to let youremote in and try the wireless print server installation if you can. Let me know a good time to try. I'm following the install instructions, do the "Temporarily connect the print server to the computer using the blacksetup cable..", turn on the print server, connect to MSHOME (recommended), security is disabled, IP obtained automatically, settings are written to the Print Server (IP address DHCP), then I get the error: Wireless connection failed: Can't find the Print Server on the wireless network from this machine.(refresh). same problem, different place.. :-( Hi, I have the same problem with 2101nw. The "mixed mode soluion" did not help me unfortunately (http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=1299607 ). When I ping the thing i get all packets correctly, it easily gets an IP from the WRT54GS, but i still get the same error message "Wireless connection failed". Tried with Vista and XP machines - same results. Any ideas anyone??
same issue here Hi, I have used the this print server no problem for several months until it refuses to connect to my wireless network today. I searched HP support/faqs but I found no answer to this problem other than checking the power. I found one post in HP support forum but sadly I saw no active reply from any HP supports. I have not contacted HP yet. When performing the re-installation, the software can detect the wireless network but it failed to connect the print server. Manually entering the IP address, subnetmask, etc... does not help. I have not changed anything of my network. The device just simply stopped recognizing the network. I appreciate if anyone can help.
Unfortunately I think the solution is to reduce your key length I've had the same issue connecting the print server to the wireless network. I was running WPA2 - Personal - AES with a 63 ASCII character pass phrase. I tried changing from accepting only 802.11G to mixed mode to no avail. I ended up calling HP and they told me that it was because WPA2 isn't supported and/or the key length was too long! I changed to WPA with a 13 character pass phrase and got it to work.
I had a similar problem after the server was set up and working ok. I changed my wireless router and it just did not work at all - I tried uninstalling the software, this could not be done no matter what I tried, and I kept getting messages of missing *.dll files - I then ran advanced setup followed all instructions to the letter and and it worked fine. and they all lived happily ever after
Hi All I am newcomer to this forum so forgive if the following has been answered. I loaded and connected the Hp print server to a PC ok then reconnected it to a Canon printer and printed ok via my Orange router. Question: How do I have my two other PCs that use the same wireless router, but are not networked with the first PC, print via the HP print Server Thanks for any help on this Boyseeuk
I've just spent the last two days trying to set the print server up on two notebooks and a netbook. As suggested earlier in this thread shortening the length of the encryption key worked to get it installed on the first notebook, but then couldn't manage it on the others. Straight forward in the end. After any failed attempts, uninstall the device drivers on that machine. Then when installing on additional machines, make sure the print server is connected to the machine with the set up cable and switched on when you start the set up process. It detects the printer, you don't have to run the network settings part as they are already configured on the print server, and away you go. Would have been so much easier if they had just said that in the set up guide!
