So I have been tasked with a report to define why exactly it was we switched from Lenovo to HP laptops. We were using the X61 Lenovo model when someone came up with the bright idea we switch over to the HP Elitebook 2530P models. What brought this research project on was that we are having what seems to be more issues with the HP's (hardware, physical damage, performance and support is in my opinion far behind what we had with Lenovo) Again (and this is my opinion) the Lenovo's were solid machines, work-horses if you will. The specs of the HP 2530P are as follows: Windows XP Pro SP3 1. Board: Hewlett-Packard 30E1 KBC Version 03.16 Bus Clock: 200 megahertz 2. 1.20 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo 64 kilobyte primary memory cache 3072 kilobyte secondary memory cache 64-bit ready Multi-core (2 total) Not hyper-threaded 3. 80.02 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity SATA 5400 RPM 4. 2048 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory - DDR2 - PC2-6400 400MHz - FSB DRAM 1:2 - DRAM FREQ 399.0 5. Does anyone have the same issues with HP? Got a better solution? Of course price is always the main factor but any advice or opinion would be appreciated. Thank you.
My humble opinion after three HP laptops and five displays is a simple: RUN! Business customers might get a bit more pleasing action from technical support. However, in my experience all HP does is vomit lies and blame the customer. [Edit] I paid for two laptops, one was DOA and got it replaced after a brief fight with CS. Also paid for one display. HP sent me a few replacements. All had either faulty backlight or dozens of dead pixels. Also they mucked up the RMA and I ended up with a free 24" display. Oh yes and the last one HP sent me has a dead USB hub. That would be the "best part" of my HP experience". [/Edit] As far it goes with Lenovo, my next laptop will be one. I've used a few and all were ugly to the average eye but built like a tank. Cost is higher spec-for-spec but quality and problems/units ratio was much better. Think Lada vs Mercedes.
Yup, HP laptops have shocking build quality and are plagued with problems. Lenovo ThinkPads on the other hand are bullet-proof (although they are expensive).
I wouldnt say that of older HP laptops, BUT, I think that HP pc's suck too, basically because at my old job everyones new one broke down frequnetly needing new hardware.
In my opinion, dealing with HP support is easier, but when it comes down to it, I would say I see less IBM's in my repair shop than HP's, (for hardware issues). HP does extend their defective warranty to 24 months from time of purchase, but with the recent NVIDIA problem, and they now have a new "no power" problem that is causing them some hurt; I send in 1-2 HP laptops back to them a week for motherboard replacement. Now when it comes to working on them, I do enjoy taking HP's apart more than IBM's, as they are easier to work on. If I were consulting for a business client for purchasing new laptop's, I would push IBM over HP. IBM thinkpads are more business oriented than HP's laptops in my opinion.
I would recommend Toshiba laptops as well as Lenovo any day over HP. HP are no where near their quality say 4 years ago, Dell are even better than HP.
