I've been tasked with, much to my distaste, getting a 'secure' page setup on the companies site.

There's only one massive problem. I don't even know how to use these properly.

I've been searching through the ol' intarbuts, and pretty much everywhere says "Oh, just stuff .htaccess and .htpasswd in the folder and it'll work". Which, of course, it isn't doing for me.

I've got them in, they're set up properly according the dozens of 'how-to' things I've read, but whenever I go to the url it throws up a 403-forbidden error - Without even asking me for a user/password.

If I take the two .ht files out, then I can see the test.html file I chucked in so I knew when I'd buggered it up, and when it worked (Which is yet to be seen!).

    Any advice?

I'll be Google Trawling in the meantime, too.

Afterthought: Uploading using cyberduck, ASCII is the default transfer mode.
