Linux is also quite easy :

    http://dancevision.blub.be/genbox/ (site in dutch)

This uses gentoo, freevo and mplayer. Works nicely. (no screenshots on the site though :( )

i dunno ... looks kinda cheezey to me ...

i prefer just straight xp pro personally... but i dont have a tv card in my htpc, i just switch inputs on the tv between the puter and the digi cable box ...

mine is more of a component than a total system ... it just replaced moms dvd player ,giving it the ability to watch all sorts of movies (her old dvd player sucked, no mp3 or vcd support) and play music and surf da web...

Ok well... I was thinking of doing something like this, however I do not have the programming skills. Anyway, I downloaded the program, however I can't get it to play avis or mpegs. Under the player tab in my HTPC you can specify a player plugin, however where do you get that from and do you really need it? I just can't get it to play anything! Help!:waah:

There are far more polished and professional looking alternatives out there, one in particular that I can't remember the name of. I'll update this post shortly as soon as it comes to me.
