I finally got Gentoo installed on my PowerBook, anyone who's installed Linux on an OldWorld Mac knows what a pain in the arse it is. But now I am sat here typing this on my wonderful 233MHz laptop of pure magnificence. I was tempted never to emerge X.org, but eventually lack of a window manager got to me. Enter ratpoison a fantastic keyboard controlled window manager inspired by GNU Screen and Emacs. It was written by Shawn Betts, as the title suggests. After researching my new favourite programmer a bit more I stumbled across his Firefox plugin, Conkeror. Conkeror is a fantastic chrome theme for Firefox. But it is so much more than just a pretty face p). It assigns Emacs-style hotkeys to Firefox, allowing i-search and C-X C-C for quit If you are reading this in your Beryl-Fusion-Super-Dee-F*cking-Dooper desktop, I seriously suggest you try out ratpoison, and Conkeror. You won't regret it. </euphoria>
Wonder if i should try this on my IBM 600e laptop. P2 233mhz and 192mb of ram Cheesecake! Im currently running a stripped down windows 2000 on it but i would like it to be faster lol. Oh and it would need to be able to do leap or peap WEP encryption for my campus' network (I know how to get that in linux tho)
Eeeek, Emacs Xorg isn't that bad to emerge, but it will take quite some time on a 233MHz machine... But, distcc to the rescue for that inconvenience...
