As the title really, I am after a new mouse and mat as I am sick of wireless and my hands always hurting.

    My requirements are:

    Wired
    Comfortable for every day usage
    Works well for gaming
Good for big hands (I am right handed so no need for an ambidextrous mouse)

And the mat needs to be around 30cm squared, my boogie bug is just far too huge for my new desk.

Ideally I don't want to spend more than £40/£50 for both, I don't need an all singing all dancing uber gaming mouse and a pad made from the stomach lining of a Bald Parrot :D

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Sidewinder X5 is a brilliant mouse and I don't really see why you should spend more from what you've asked for and as for the mat, most anything from Steel Series will do you fine

How can anyone be sick of wireless mice? Best development in peripherals for a long time tbh.

I have to admit i prefer wired mice aswell, ive never had an issue or lack of freedom from having a wire. But im terrible for charging/having spare batteries.

I got this mouse mat SteelSeries QcK+ XXL Cloth
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/SteelSeries-QcKplus

And a logitech G5 mouse which is good which make a good combo, i always found that its a case of paring the right mouse with the right mat for top performance

Batteries! They always run out in the middle of a game or when I am doing some design work. I don't know if its interference, batteries nearly dying but not dead or just general crappiness but in l4d2 and tf2 all my wireless mice(I don't have an army of mice, but other household members do occasionally find their mice missing:lol:) seem to lag like hell, my crappy wired mice work perfectly.

But if anyone can suggest a decent wireless "gaming"-ish mouse that doesn't break the bank then I am open to that.

Cheers for the suggestion moyo2k I will look into the mouse right now.

Edit: That mat looks perfect J!n, maybe a little bit big, but after checking their site seems they do a good range of sizes. :thumb:

Bit of a fanboy, but I'd suggest looking around at what Razer has to offer. I'm currently using their Copperhead and it's a real treat. Probably not good for you since it's one of Razer's smallest mice and is ambidextrous so it isn't form fittingly plush. However, all of the other models should work for you quite well. There's even one/some with the option to be wired or wireless at your discretion. If the performance and build quality on them is anything like the Copperhead you won't be disappointed.

They also have some mats which I have no experience with, I have never used a 'gaming' or 'performance' pad of any sort. I believe some have little wrist pads. Also one kinda cool silicone one. Just for your awareness.

I currently use a Logitech MX1100R - I haven't noticed any lag at all in source games (or anything else for that matter) and the battery lasts for 3-4 weeks between charges. It also starts nagging for a charge while there's still 5-6 days of life left in it (I tested out of curiosity), and it takes AA rechargeable batteries if you happen to run out during a game or something.

Can never be a HUGE gamer on the wireless. Just can't be 100% certain like you can on wired.

It's hard to suggest such things as a mouse and mouse pad as it is such a personal decision. All to do with the way you like it to feel to be honest.

I've used QPAD's for around 3-4 years now and absolutely love them. The large mat is about 30cm by 20cm i think and is about £15-£20..
As for mice.. I always used a standard Microsoft Intellimouse !Clicky! and absolutely love them! Nice and light yet smoothe too.
Only other mice I've used is the Razer Copperhead and I loved it but it broke and if you compare prices, I'm happy to stick with these Microsoft ones....

I'm sorry, but until someone shows me a scientific paper on this I'm going to dismiss it as rubbish. Poll rates for wireless mice are so high that the only way reasonable losses could be noticed would be if you moved the mouse hilariously fast, at which point you have no meaningful control anyway.

    Logitech G5/G9.

Razer make some great mouse-mats, but they are very overpriced when most household objects will do the trick for free.

QFT. I've had wireless mice since the MX700 way back when... From there it's progressed to the MX1000, then the G7, now on the MX Revolution. Will probably upgrade to the new Performance MX as my next mouse.

As for batteries, my Revolution needs a charge every other day, even after a heavy day's use of FPS gaming.

I recommend any Razer product, they also do one of the best wireless gaming mice with <1ms respons same as there wired.

Im using the Razer Lycosa, Lachesis and eXactMat and very happy with all 3!
I persnaly dont like logitec products as they feel cheap and poor build quality when i use them...

Roccat are also worth having a look into.

Just a little bump as I, too am interested in a new mouse. One thing I can recommend is the Razer Exactmat, I'm very happy with mine!

Now if only I can find a mouse that I like!

I think the Logitech G9 is the one to go for. I've been using one for two years and it's been great. I also have large hands with long fingers and the G9 is very comfortable and fits my hand well. It's good for gaming and everyday use.

Yeah, it is also my mouse of choice. Of my gaming friends, I know of three others who have it aswell, and one who has the G5 - also a great mouse.
