I loved the movie up until the last 20% of it or so, then it all went to hell. One of the few movies that I really liked that really nailed the whole fate vs. coincidence thing was Signs. This movie seemed to tack it on, almost as an afterthought. It was like they were just trying to shove a theme or moral into the viewers face, instead of just letting the audience come up with their own thoughts on what message the movie had.

So I'll have to echo what others have said. The movie was great until the chick showed up, then it just got stupid.

Also, the monsters were really stupid. Someone ^up there said that they looked like they were ripped out of "The Mummy" and I agree completely. This had the potential to be a great movie, but maybe if it were in the hands of a different director. One thing is for sure though, Will Smith really is capable of being a great actor. The movie was basically an hour and a half of Will Smith and a dog and he manages to keep things interesting.

He's very good in I, Robot. Played that role brilliantly.

    And Ali too.

I'm starting to like Will Smith. He tends to act a bit more now, rather than just be the same sort of wisecracking-cool-black-guy-who-dresses-nice-and-the-ladies-love. Although Bad Boys is still a great film.

Although i cannot confirm for lack of reading the book, i went to see this with a mate who had. He was pissed that the story fell away from the novel soo much and had a completely different ending. On the whole i was disapointed with the film and i think maybe they used big willy to carry it a little as i saw it because i'm a fan of him and have been since the fresh prince days....on my friends brief summary of how the book panned out it made me regret seeing the film as they played for the hollywood ending, not the one did justice to the book. If you havent seen the film, buy the book and read it (just started doing that now) and then rent the dvd from blockbuster...for the time being go see the golden compass as thats a better film.

    peace

Saw the film last night, Quite enjoyed it even though it did seem rushed at the end.
I can see the flim companys point of view there, why make the film 30 - 60 mins longer and more expensive when really the same number of people are going to see it anyway.

Impressive House protection though shame he didnt put UV blubs Through out the house !

As i own an Alisatian myself I found the dogs death really sombre :(

    I`d give it a 6/10 overall also.

Making Money is a great book, can't say much else about it without spoiling it.

After reading the book a few years back on Joe's recomendation, I too was annoyed by the totally different ending. I kept expecting the woman who turned up to
    be a vampire
, and then when she turned out to actually
    be human
, it was like, what? They totally and utterly removed the entire point of the story! In the book, the first 80% is simple a build up to the final scenes, but by changing the ending it removed the point of the first half of the story, turning it simply into a survival-horror type film.

Granted, the first half wasn't too bad, and bad CGI never really bothers me, as to be honest, I've still yet to see 'good' CGI=. You can still spot CGI a mile away, so what does it matter if it looks great or simply good, when you know it's fake either way? Although contrary to other posters, I thought Will Smith actually did quite a good job, and the scene where the
    dog dies
I actually thought was really moving.

I have to say I'm tired of films using all CGI these days, when we look back at these films in 10 or 20 years I think they will look incredibly dated, far more so than the films which came before them that used animatronic models.

Jurassic Park, for example, still looks great, even now, because they didn't CGI any of the main bits (there was a bit at the end, but that doesn't really matter).

One film that really spoiled itself for me was Die Hard 4 - they used far too much CGI in that, and it was all pretty rubbish too. (My favourite bit is right at the beginning, the really heavy traffic in the city is mostly CGI'd, and one car just slides along without its wheels turning...)

True, but the movements of the robots in JP look very stiff and automatic to me. Especially the T-Rex. CGI is OK, but I care more about real stunts, choreography, pacing, car chases and wire-fu than I do about a digital recreation.

I enjoyed the film and most of my friends did to. I would rate this better than the Omega man. I saw an article about I am Legend when it was being made, they said that they did have actors in for the role of the infected but they said it didn't have the right look they were going for. I think the article was on IGN.

I went to see this movie purely because I found the trailer leading up to it didn't really tell you much about it, and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
I found Will Smith played the character quite well.

The religious undertones of "good vs. evil" was fairly obvious there but that didn't bother me.

I did get fairly engrossed in the storyline though, and on the drive home I was worried these
    zombie, mummy
type things were going to jump out at us.

I'm going to echo the 6/10 - rating.

In retrospect, I think the most enjoyable part of my cinema outing was probably the Cloverfield trailer at the beginning.

re: CGI, best film to use CGI so far has to be I, Robot (I keep mentioning this film, but I just can't help it!)

I think the best film to use CGI was Toy Story personally :p
