Fans 2 - Zap 0 Serious: Sorry to see/read that zap.. looks like it hurts ALOT I don't have my left thumb print at the moment.. At my summerjob, I was 'scrubbing' of paint of the.. rain..gutter ? of my boss his house.. with sandpaper.. a WHOLE day... my thumb hurts ALOT , and I tried a fingerprint, and half of my the print is GONE, its coming back slowly now though damn job L (I only work 2 days a week at his house.. the rest is in the store, cool store though)
I've had one or two similar experiences too - been particularly unlucky with YSTech fans for some reason?? Managed some pretty painful accidents with "testing" an 80mm and a 120mm YSTech, where the pad and middle joint of my index finger ended up dripping blood on my recently painted case. Also starting to lose count of the number of minor soldering burns I've had while learning various mods over the past 2 years.
I have a very fast 60mm delta fan on my CPU atm. When it was new and I was showing it off a friend of mind stuck his finger in and took the top off it. Was no problem though as he didn't get any blood on the system (c;
Well, I feel bad for you all.. The only major accident I had was modding an 80 mm fan... I bought a 11,500RPM 12V motor from radio shack.. and yup, you guessed it, it was goin on that little 80mm But of course, after testing it about the third or fourth time, I lost my grip uppon spinup and dropped the fan onto the floor. Ripped three blades off the fan, the axle off the inside off the fan. One of the three blades hit my thumb, laying out a gash about 3.5 cm long... and it was deep too. Though I wimped out and disinfected, and bandaged up... with electrical tape I have not attempted to attatch the motor to another fan yet, but plan to soon MAN.. it got some darn good airflow. but it was incredibly noisy, and sunk 1.5A, at 12V. I am kinda thinking of finishing that project off now, wish me luck EDIT: cool.. no visible scar Its like I'm super man.. but then again, it was a while ago
I don't get how you get your fingers clipped. When I put my fingers in the fan that should clip them, the fan blades stop moving. When I put my hand on the PSU heatsinks that shouldn't be live.... *ZAP!*
lol.. sorry, it was nearer to the palm of my hand, but technically still on my thumb. Fired that motor up yesterday, and realized just how noisy it was... no wonder I never started it up again for so long. But I think it would still be pretty cool. i got an old 92 mm fan that is starting to die, again. So I shall mod that little sucker up and see how it blows. Pun intended.
I got some noisy, high volume YSTechs that I have spare... an 80mm and a 120mm The actual cases/frames holding the fans are quite thick, so I'm thinking they should be easier than most to mount LED's... I know LED fans are dropping in price, but I just love modding and using any spares I've already got first. Just a co-incidence but the 120mm YSTech in question is responsible for my most severe fan injury to date... a fingernail sized slice of skin off the pad of my thumb
Ya know, you should use like a straw to stop the fans - soft so it won't damage the blades. The worst I did was with a 92mm panaflo - luckily it was the right area of the fan to where it didn't slice my finger too bad. L J
about 2 years ago i was using a skrew driver to do summot (not on a skrew ironicly) and i sliped and stabed it all the way through my left hand..... it kinda hurt a bit
...well when ya get a perforation where you weren't designed to have one, it tends to have that sort of an effect... BTW Theo, I'm sorry to hear that your spell checker bit the dust LOL Looks like you're struggling without one, eh??
80mm Fans I have had them brush me hand but not cut luckly. Zap your fingers do look stange? There very thin and your two fingers can be down and the middle is able to be held straight. If I do that my middle finger folds 90 degrees towards me. The worst cut I have got was removing some rear blanking plates from an old Pentum desktop, you know the ones loads of metal fatigue and they come out. Well one poped out so violently that my finger slipped onto the edge of the case and cut a 1 cm wide by half centimeter deep lump out.
:::instead of normal puberty stricken voice im using a manly arnold voice::::: 6th grade... semester of shop..... footstool.. carved my name with a wood burner hand slipped.... no fingerprint on my thumb in the center. busts out in song theres battlescars on my face and my arms but still i come out here and play (battlescars by ozma)
Well whadya know, I ruined my finger in 6th grade shop class too! I was cutting wooden dowling with a hacksaw (making a tape rack), and it slipped... right onto my thumb. When I landed after my 30 foot jump straight through the roof, we inspected the damage. It went halfway through my fingernail (from the SIDE ) and was hella deep to boot. Next time, cut closer to the freaking clamp!
I once stuck my finger into mý cpu fan. ouch. half a centimetre deep cut from it.... luckily no fingerprints were erased....
I cut my finger, cracked my finger nail down the center, and took a chunk out of my finger all at the same time........................................................with a vantec tornado............................ ...............................................on 24V........ nothing like having a **guessing** 7000RPM** heavy duty fan blade slice, crack, and tear at your finger................. what you dont want to get cut by is this......... a 172mm steel blade, serated fan............3500 RPM, use 24V and get it up to 7000rpm, lmao, OH NO!!! MY FINGER FELL OFF!!!!!
