I just paid £6.50 for a 10/100 mbps nic, scan are doing some £4.99 but after p&p it would be a lot more, can anyone beat that on new nic without going to ebay. Ok they are no good for a proper server but for a home network they are good enough its a realtek 8139c.
Tell me, mate, exactly where can you buy these £6.50 cards? I paid £10 a couple of weeks ago and thought that was reasonable! Oh yeah, did that include p&p?
I just paid US$20 (have no idea what the conversion rate is) for a Linksys NIC and it has a $10 rebate. Only problem is it is a Best Buy rebate and I have never gotten any rebates back from them. Kinda makes you mad. But it was still a pretty good price, even better if I get my $10 back. EDIT: hehe, I just noticed that is post 150 for me w00t
It was at a local computer shop, so no p&p was included but scan are doing them for £4.99 + p&p which is about £10, so you would have to buy quite a few to get them for a reasonable deal.
Hmmm probably doesn't count, but I got 4 intel 10/100 nics for nought from work. They're from a load of compaq's that my work are throwing out, and I know the hardware guys...
Hey Goo, you know I think your work is the best don't you?! Fancy postin' me a couple of those free-bee's?! No? Oh well, guess I will have to search elsewhere!:cries:
Not all realteks are created equal, so your £12.99 ones may be a lot better. For example the £6.50 one doesn't have wol, where as my other realteks do.
Yeh these AT's have "Magic Packet" thingy. Mind you I don't know anyone who actually uses WakeOnLan tho. Hey did u know you've got exactly the same video card as i have?
Im so glad i live right next door to scan and dabs , i knew there must of been one good thing about living in bolton LithiumX
My NIC cost around £5. Its realtek and has WOL! How totally useless I also didnt pay anything for postage (free delivery on immense orders, and mine was £500 or something ) Got it from ebuyer.com
Unfortunately I have had some bad experiences with e-buyer in the past, such as orders not turning up, so I tend to steer clear of that company. Maybe they have gotten their act together now though?
the realtek 8139 is a very popular chipset in nic's theese days.. dealt with them a bit, no problems.. I too dont know the conversion, but nic's in the US you can get for around 5$ us on sale.. -scoob8000
I've never had any problems, nor have my friends, although we've all been using it within the last 6-8 months so maybe they have improved.
