Well I installed wine, checked the configuration all looked fine! Tried to install Klite++ and would it work? Would it heck! All it managed to do was to show me the installer bits (with white boxes instead of text) and then refuse to install!

I don't suppose that any of you have the slightest idea on how to get this thing to work? Or just a decent Linux p2p prog that using the same network etc as kazaalite ++? By know of I mean ones that you would advise rather than just a list.

    Ta

    Err.

Why are you installing Wine again ?

If your going to go through the trouble of it, get WineX. Much better, just as much a pain in the ass to install. :D

Otherwise, make sure your Wine is a current version.

And check the Wine site to make sure it even suports Kazaa.

Otherwise the only other thing would be to put a copy of yor config up as well as all your drive information. Maybe we can see something.

Cheers! I checked things out and apparantly Kazaa lite requires you to copy some dlls from a windows setup in order to work! I really can't be bothered! lol. I think I will just carry on using Windows 2000 for the mo! lol.

Think I wiil have a look at installing WineX though as the version I have only works wit The Sims!

    Ok, a few things:

Wine does support Kazaa Lite, and it's pretty well documented, a quick search of Google brings up alot.

I have WINE working with Kazaa Lite, very smoothly, and yes you do need several DLL's from a 95/98 system.

Kargin: Why would he use WINEX? WINEX is Windows emulation with support built in for DirectX, ie, for gaming.

Exactly, if he wants to run games or anything, he'll need the DirectX extensions. And trying to remove Wine is like trying to ensemenate a steel block. Since you can't have two Wine installations, then they can't co exist (nicely).

And technically, Wine is a campatibility layer, not an emulation engine. ;)

You don't use WineX just for the hell of it i'm afraid, there is draw backs. :)

WineX will install over Wine just as how any Wine update will, so I don't know where you got that idea from.

Where did I call it an "emulation engine" :/ It's still a Win32 emulator. It's just a Windows API on Unix.

Thats the point he's getting at Wine Is Not an Emulator

wine is the windows API layer brought to *nix not an emulator
