Why do you have to go and change your stupid software?
Now thanks to your update, all my movie & TV files- of which there are thousands- have been moved into Home Movies with no option to rename or put them back to what they actually are

    I HATE YOU SO MUCH

Now you crash everytime I try to output Ac3- YOU ARE BAAD MO FO

Now you work for no reason but all my files are still screwed

    Apple can go to hell

Uh, isn't this the same controlling manor Apple have been known for, for years? They lock down and control everything. :D

Get yourself some real hardware and software. ;)

The media software of gods is just one click away: http://kodi.tv/

(yes, this is a shameless endorsement of kodi, no they didn't pay me for it)

You loaded thousands of 'ripped' movies into iTunes?

I'm a fully paid up member of Team Apple with Laptops, phones, tablets and an entire career based on Apple tech...

But loading movies into iTunes is just crazy gravy. I thought that was common knowledge?

Yes, my music is all in iTunes but movies get moved around the old fashion way from folder to folder, or folder to media player or folder to app. Streaming is kept to a minimum and everything avoids Apple's "But you didn't but it from us..." logic that changes things around every few years.

But then maybe you're using iTunes on a PC... which is crazy gravy anyway. iTunes runs lovely on a Mac though...

iTunes on PC is a crash-happy pile of junk [or it was last time i used it, though i can probably say with some confidence that it hasn't improved any]... If you can ditch it in favour of something else, do so...

<-- former apple tech support drone, though not a card carrying paid-up macolyte like Guinevere...

I have thousands of purchased iTunes files not ripped files- those I have as mkv files and I use XMBC for that
Due to space issues and other issues (the Missus!!) I had to sell my DVD/BluRay collection a while ago- hence the mkv files- but I have not yet had either the time to convert the m4v files into mp4 files as it takes too long and is hit and miss

Got a free iPod from my previous job a few years ago. What I hated the most was iTunes. I don't know how it is on Mac, and I need more freedom than what Apple as to offer, but on windows this is just a NO GO.

better on mac- that's why I have so many files but using windows pc for work mostly and nothing works for me on mac due to the systems/programs I have to run
Would love an alternative to iTunes but found none that will play/stream m4v files and I don't have time to convert all the files as it would take far too long

as far as I know there any no plugins that will play/stream drm iTunes files via media player or any other ones unless the files are converted
If anyone knows of one I would be most grateful

Why the hell are you even using itunes? It isn't the only option if it annoys you so much.

I've used foobar for the best part of a year and it's miles better than itunes in almost every conceivable way. Customisable, fast and minimal with dozens of plugins which you can put where you like. Almost tailor made player.

I use Winamp to play all of my media, even the tunes I've bought via iTunes. I just sync up my phone to iTunes, then copy anything that's been downloaded to "My Music" and chuck it on my NAS..... simples!

There hasn't been DRM on iTunes (music atleast) for flippin ages!

Will VLC play m4v files? I've looked around a bit, and seen at least one place that seems to think VLC will support those file formats. I would check it out, although I can't say for sure one way or another.
